i hate when quotes like this make sense and we're NOT
suppose to FEAR something......grrrrrr

this guy is too logical!!

Why should I fear death? If I am, death is not. If death is,
I am not. Why
should I fear that which cannot exist when I do?

-Epicurus, philosopher
(c.341-270 BCE)

The Way of the Samurai is found in death. Meditation on
inevitable death should be performed daily. Every day when
one's body and mind are at peace, one should meditate upon
being ripped apart by arrows, rifles, spears and swords,
being carried away by surging waves, being thrown into the
midst of a great fire, being struck by lightning, being
shaken to death by a great earthquake, falling from
thousand-foot cliffs, dying of disease or committing seppuku
at the death of one's master. And every day without fail one
should consider himself as dead.

Hagakure (The way of the Samurai)

That quote ignores time and change. I fear death because:

01) there is a distinct possibility that i will suddenly be
UN for ever and ever and ever and ever &tc

02) i don't want to be there when it happens

I'm scared of not existing; I dunno about you

But I don't control that I know that mine's precious til the
end
I leave my lifecourse to the greater knowledge of the
creator
And if it's time to go, I won't hold back, I'll just let it,
go..
Let it flow, if it's meant to come back then it shall do so

Mercenary*

yea i don't wanna be there when it happens either!!

*misses that appointment*

i'm scared of NOT existing either, but when you look at it
like epicurus put it....you won't be aware to be afraid.
which makes sense.....doesn't mean i like it tho....tee hee

Epicurus was a sucker. Sure he died fearfully cryin' like a
child...
Never take philosophers too seriously, I used to be one of
them... ...gotta end my studies someday... ...argh...

Maybe you should not associate with those who conform to
such stereotypes then.

Read Soygal Rimpoche's revision of The Tibetan Book of
Death. Learned a lot there. A LOT. Fear gone away...

Its camp Australian comedian Bob Downe.

And its a great book; read it. I still have to read 'Bonfire
of the Vanities' but this guy is a great author.

Sweet dreams.

Yeah I have that too -- I love all that 60s Acid stuff :)
It's good to cross-reference bits of that book with "Hell's
Angels" by Hunter S Thompson :)

about death: well i didn't exist for an eternity up until my
birth, and it didn't do me any harm.

besides, millions of people have died and none of THEM have
complained, have they?
