The coolest beats? You'll have to find that out for
yourself.

Kid has very different records: from lovely minimal, dubby
techno to raving noisy, chaotic breakbeat stuff. Cex is
notorious for rapping badly over his IDM. Go to
www.tigerbeat6.com for more info and soundbytes.

For his most chaotic album: "Down with the scene": full of
distortion, voice samples, brekbeats stretched into every
direction etc.

For his calm, elegic side: "PS, I love you": typical for
Force Inc. label: four to the floor beats and shady
ambients. Very calm and nice

For his plunderphonic/ bastard pop remixes: "Action Packed
Mentallist Brings you the Fucking Jams". If you want to hear
Missy Elliot spliced with Jay Z and Eminem and Black Sabbath
and A-ha with a little bit of raggamuffin thrown in for good
measure, all over jungle breaks, this is your first stop
(and all that in one track).

only heard kid606's "ps i love you" and it's fantastuc
minimal techno with lots of glitch.........mixes great with
Phoenecia, AFX etc
Gotta hear his other stuff
Read a "wire" interview with him...he's a dick but he makes
good music so he isn't
I love that...if i made good, origional music, i'd be a
right royal asshole too! Look at >[ ].....one grumpy fuck
but i love him! Bring it on - destroy the celebrity
thing...make the music count

i had that issue. i only bought it for the review of
"Drukqs" tho.
first time i read the story of the infamous "lost afx mp3
player" too.

I dunno, he made a lot of sense to me. He's against IDM (or
whatever you want to call it) becoming a closedminded
community of trainspotters and technology-nerds and that
kinda goes along the lines of what I'm thinking.

Weakling: were you disappointed that Rob Young decided to
give RDJ a proper spanking on the ass? Fully deserved,
IMO...

offline KEYFUMBLER from DUBLIN (Ireland) on 2002-08-15 12:05 [#00350642]
Points: 5696 Status: Lurker

rob young wrote that review and he does most of the
braindance/idm reviews and hes a great writer, very
artculate...but i really think he should do a "i've-given
the-record-a-few-months-to-grab-my-nuts" review cos i know
he's think better of goplastuc/drukqs etc. ...

was that the thing he lost at the airport?

offline Meho Krljic from Beograd (Yugoslavia) on 2002-08-15 12:09 [#00350649]
Points: 6617 Status: Addict

eh? who lost what at the airport? I dunno what you are on
about... I remember that even back in 95 Rob Young wrote of
ventolin remixes as being just an excersise in perversity or
something. He's not too much into drill 'n' bass and stuff.
But Go Plastic got a good review, if not from him...

OK.

yeah, rob youngs review was a little off, no? he does that
though: while he's a very good writer he tends to be a
little quick to judge.....we all know braindance grows on ya
over time!
(was that lost mp3 player the incident at the airport?)

offline Meho Krljic from Beograd (Yugoslavia) on 2002-08-15 12:18 [#00350660]
Points: 6617 Status: Addict

Ahh,, I dunno about Rich's lost mp3 player. I thought that
was just a myth.

But my point is that RY was dead on regarding "Drukqs". He
echoed what I felt when I heard the album for the first
time. Maybe I have been brainwashed by the wire, but I
really expected RDJ to move to a new level, not to try and
flash us with technique/ technology

offline KEYFUMBLER from DUBLIN (Ireland) on 2002-08-15 12:22 [#00350666]

ignore that...i covered it already!

Jedy! Ya missed it...last friday! I did a review on monday.
Got in free too (sorry).......the Warp thing was the last
bus-tour gig on July....madness
...so what ARE ya doing to get yer fix? Thomas house,
lazybird, Copper face jacks?!!

meho: i read that RDJ left something on a plane..maybe a
laptop.....in scotland a while back and he scoured the net
for possible rips but found nothing, figuring it was wiped
blank

offline KEYFUMBLER from DUBLIN (Ireland) on 2002-08-15 12:26 [#00350672]
Points: 5696 Status: Lurker

thats my point: "He
echoed what I felt when I heard the album for the first
time"...now he should write a followup on that very idea
that soemthing grows on you and becomes deeper. I think
Drukqs is initially what he says it was but then you realise
theres a lot more to it.....themes, ideas, not just
back-catalogue stuff for contract purposes. Maybe i'm
projecting that though! Oh well

Yeah, I reckon that Mp3 player lark was bollocks too...when
are people gonna realise that most of what AFX says in
interviews is written by the Brothers Grimm???....

MEHO:...thanks for the offer...but I've just checked
thewires site out and it turns out I can get a back-issue of
that one easily...last time I looked it was sold out but
looks like they've found some more...

Thanks anyway...

Maybe you are. I just can't listen to too much druqks at a
time. A lot of it is very boring to me... There are a few
brilliant parts in there of course but there are a lot of
really generic parts too... I know it didn't grow up on me
for sure.
