hmmm... dont know about a soundtrack... its not like
mainstream or anything... its french music mostly.

Its a french film about a shy girl who falls in love with
this guy she never met.

its so much more then that... very complicated... and funny.

Its like, how she came to fall in love with him, and how
they end up meeting, but then there all these other little
stories along with it.

Excellent.

"french film,by the guy who did the city of lost children."

it's a directing team. Jeunet and Caro. they also did
delicatessen.

yea, and alien ressucktion, i don't hold that against him
though...he did a good job in terms of directing...the
writer shoulda been shot

I usually hate happy movies. And I didn't like the ending...
sunshine and lollipops and all that sweet stuff. I wish
Amelie died or something, despite being so sweet. Kind of a
slap in the face back to reality, and it would've made me
cry like a baby. I'm in love with sadness!

But the movie generally made me feel better, a rare feat...
great great movie. I almost broke my ribs laughing at the
scene where she's on the roof fucking around with the soccer
fan's reception, heh.

it wasn't directed by Caro and Jeunet, just by Jeunet. I
don't think Caro worked on "alien: ressurection" either.

anyway, Amelie is great. first time I saw it (I've seen it
twice) I was alone, got really depressed because I felt
extremely lonely and it was ALL MY OWN FAULT (as the film
propogates).

do check out 'city of lost children' and especially
'delicatessen' - both are great, the latter one is a little
masterpiece.

is delicatessen easy to get a hold of in the U.S.?

I don't know, don't live in the US.

if you can get it, do though!

City Of Lost Children is quite good (I've got it on DVD) and
I really wanna see Delicatessen but it's not out on DVD yet,
so I'm holding off. (Anyone know if Blockbuster/Hollywood
Video caries this in their stores on VHS?)

I've also heard Amelie was good, but I haven't been in the
mood for a happy movie.

you know... im really pleased with these replies.

I think at any other MB, i probably would have been
harrassed for talking about a "chick flick forgein film" or
some BS. Its good to know you guys dont fit stereotypes, and
are open minded! :)

And yes, delecatessen is available in the US. Dont know how
easy though.

I got on the librarys website (manhattan library) and they
have it. So i put it on hold... so it IS out there
somewhere.

Delicatassen and COLC are both at most video rental places
in the US - and both are great, as already stated. Amelie's
probably my fav. of the three though..

the epresso machine, as if to drown them out...

What a lovely film indeed.
Kinetic, pure, heartfelt, stylish. And most of all Innocent.
It's difficult to describe how this film manages to stay
clear of soppiness, showing the odd sex shop and suicide
jump, but still manage to feel like a portrait of the
idyllic and pure side of humanity. It just makes you feel
good. The characters are quirky and great, the little
stories are cool, and the whole thing is assembled with an
energy that keeps the movie buoyant. The delight does begin
to wear thin toward the end, but it wraps up just before it
starts to really falter. You can't help but like this movie,
it just loves life too much.
