What's the best track in the "pop" charts?

Since most radio stations are told what to play by the
record companies your choice is limited and often pop music
is farmed for the standard buyer. (EMI want money and they
control most of what is played, most your pop CDs in the UK
will either have EMI or BMI stamped on it. Go check.) If the
music industry was open and less corrupt then you would have
a more open environment for others music. Based on sales and
airplay? I don't know or care. I just wondered one day why
the charts were full of shite.

Thing is, airplay dictates what a lot of people (esp. young
teens) buy, whoever convinces the radio to play a track ahs
a huge increase in sales as a result...

the so -called "indie charts" (which ran in nme) were
better, they covered small record shops....

noticed
i don't think many ppl will remember in a few years time
what was on top of charts this year

Some sort of chart on here would be cool but I'd have no
idea how you would go about doing that.

OK, let it just be said that most of the worthless pop music
that you hate when it's a current hit, you hear some 10
years later and you get all soft and mushy....

this kind of music
i mean, since im on this mb i discovered many great new
musicians
a chart would make it much easier

Yeah, definitely. I mean, I hated A-HA and NKOTB when they
were around, but today when I haer them on the radio/ tv,
it's good ol' days all over again.

It's only now that I'm starting to think about stuff 10
years ago and to think that it seemed like it was only
yesterday I was listening to Oasis and playing NES games...

totaly agree
but, i mean if a new pop album is released not many critics
would compare it to nkotb music
on the other hand if a new electronic album is released many
would compare it to rdj(or any other of that kind) early
music

I have the original of that on tape at home. I love my 128k

I'm not a materialistic person at all am I?

No, you're a sad person like the rest of us who prefers
spending time playing computer games to interacting with
"real" people. I know I do. Just completed Half Life
yesterday and I feel like I've lost a good friend

I loved the secret passages altering depending on which
character you were- and the parts of the key were always in
different places. I knew one person who completed it, but I
never managed to get all three key parts- only 2...

Oh I get about still Meho. ;)

I know that feeling of emptiness when you complete a game
tho. The feeling normally comes from your stomach as in your
bedroom ridden state of trance in front of the console or
computer you suddenly realize you forgot to eat, drink,
sleep or anything else for 3 days at a time.

Yeah, fucking hell, those games were so difficult back then.
Completing them without cheats (the infamous "pokes") was
almost impossible. I never ever completed the sordid Sabre
Wulf either. I got all four parts of the medal once but got
killed before I found the way out. It was 2 years ago. I'll
give it another shot soon...

couldn't get off the first screen! :/

Well, I rarely have more than 2 or 3 hours to play in a row,
too many obligations... The last game that did it to me
(except for half life, of course but that's old news, the
fucker is 4 years old and still the best FPS ever) was
Aliens vs Predator 2. The marine mission just glued me to
the screen.

I have no idea, I was geeked when he told me. He is quite a
character himself tho and certainly wouldn't make anything
like that up. I told him there must be some sort of
certificate for that kind of achievement. He is a very
determined guy.

I've completed every screen (seperatley) of manic miner w/o
cheats. It's my ambition to complete it start to end w/o
saves/cheats one day. I consider manic miner to be the
"purest" platform game ever. I love it.

Meho:

JSW was stupidly hard, very good game though. I don't think
it (or its sequels) were as "tight" as the original- it
seemed to buggy/glitchy to me.

He took a chunk out of them but I don't think he finished
them. I love those games, Disco Dan was another or
something? I don't recall. My mind is set in a 2D gaming
environment. I can't play most 3D games and enjoy them as
much as 2D retro side scrollers.

I even made a few 2D games in one of those game creator
packages trying to soak up that retro feel. The music in
them was Grind and Death most of the time tho.

mmm...you made me feel all nostalgic mentioned all those
UltimatePlayTheGame speccy classics...don't think I've ever
finished KnightLore but did SabreWulf & Atic-Atac...

And Jetpac & it's sequal were excellent as well..

fuck, there were so many good games goin on then...and so
cheap compared to today (even tho I had a scam going on with
a local video shop that meant I got everything for a
£1...)...

Jet Set Willy...never finished that (apart from a highly
poked version...)...

Shall I be EVIL & kill your afternoons by giving you this
link...http://www.spectrum.lovely.net/ .... let's you play all those old
spectrum games on a webpage...check the games at the bottom
of that page...
