DrukQs---Newly Discovered Oddity...

First of all, I mainly listen to DrukQs in my truck (I do a
lot of driivng to/fro work etc...)

and at home mostly on my computer, or on my sennheiers.

But lately (while under the influence) I have noticed that
while I am away from my ocmputer (ie. downstairs, with it
blasting upstiarS) that the beats seem ODDLY fast...like,
extremely fast compaired to what I'm used to.

Well, sober tonight, messed around a bit, and noticed it
while i was in the bathroom.

Anyone else notice this?
While you are away (further away so the beats really stand
out instead of the rythms) you can hear the beats for what
they really are,,,EXTREMELY FUCKING FAST BITS!!!!!!!!!

Vordhosbn is my example.

Go experiement.

The beats are fast, I know, but when you are away from your
stereo/computer they seem MUCH MUCH faster (ie, when you are
in a different room or downstairs etc..)

try it :4

I hate how fast they are, so I downloaded a program that
plays them at 80bpm. Suck on that Richard.

has anyone else layered every track from drukqs
together...like all the piano ontop of all the other piano
tracks and all the electronic tracks??

haven't got the time to layer his tracks together!!!! what
hidden nuance did you find?

this happens with loads of music. some of my dnb sounds much
faster when i leave it playing in my room and go downstairs
to the room below. its a weird effect.

peh i thought that was obvious. listening in differnt ways
makes different parts of the song easier to hear, eg
listening with headphones, in a car, outside as thecar
drives past, on the other side of the door, underwater....it
depends on the background noise and the materials used to
block the noise out....i dont think its to do with
proximity.

it's like, i used to listen to a lot of metallica a few
years back, but then i got into NIN and i've never looked
back

i'm not trying to diss metallica, but i find that NIN has a
certain level of complicity and intricacy

i mean there's only so much you can do with two guitars,
bass and drums (and the odd orchestra here and there)

i reckon the beats in cock 10 sound about 10x more hardcore
and faster if i listen to it as soon as i get up in the
morning.

Yes makes sense- like a delay effect making uneven beats
increase in number...

i am pretty sure it's reverb that does it

i have noticed that, because when i was in college, our
control room wasn't sound proofed (literally it was just
plain walls and shit) and i noticed that when I played
drukQs through there it always seemed faster

i´m gonna get this baby on vinyl from warp soon.
Any mixing recomendations?

as in...

track 2 @ 41rbpm with track 21 @ 33rpm
I heard thinktoys mix and its great but he uses cd decks, i
bet, for max pitch/speed control. I only got lo-fi decks.

ELUSIVE: I think youre right. ive thought about that too..
in headphones the tracks seem a lot slower. i think it might
have to do with perception..

What about the doppler effect? I know this is to do with
moving objects creating waves (e.g as a car moves past you
its like 'verumm' going from higher notes to lower notes)

dunno.. i noticed this on I Care Because you do last night
actually, but i was underneath the room that the music was
playing in. and could only hear the lower frequencies

but, whats about the 'same scale' for each track that aphex
uses??
what exactly does it mean?...

please don't make me break out the accoustics laws, but
simply put, aphex loves resonance :)

standing waves are funner

resonance @ < 30Hz is also fun.

need to build an accoustic chamber to live in.

anyone find the rest of the standing waves on drukqs?

it's taken me a long time (since 2001) to find some of the
hard resonances,

but standing waves are just too fun to sit on (literally)

i can name 3 of the tracks that take part in this trivial
technique to xxxplode a little bass

I find that the beats sound faster, and feel cooler, if I'm
walking around with headphones on. Although I prefer to just
smoke weed and sit at home and listen on a good stereo, it
has the same effect, only I like it more.

On another note, Squarepusher - Theme from Ernest Borgnine
has a beat that always feels incredibly fast, its like you
keep on trying to keep up with it, and you almost make it,
but never quite. Like the endlessly rising, but never really
rising beauty of shepherds tones.... mmm strange loops.
