i messed with one in a store and all it was was dance-ish
club tunes... but i tweaked it a lot and got some
interesting noises from it. not worth getting unless you
prefer BUH TSS BUH TSS BUH TSS

don't buy some all in one step shit. buy a tune synth, drum
synth, sampler, you'll mire flexible and can make so many
things, take a look at this one....the best drummachine i've
ever used -> http://www.synthony.com/Products/dr770.html

a synth with everything in it is not as fun as seperate
equipment. i have an mc303 and it's not one of my favorite
pieces, but i dont have too much equipment right now, so i
have to use it. i'm going to try to limit it to bass lines
and a few short notes really. anyways, for the price that
you'd spend on one of those things, you could get a
keyboard, drum machine, and some effects.

I have a Korg ES-1, the sampling rhythm machine, just got it
a while ago. It's pretty ok, I guess. I haven't used it for
any tracks yet, I basically just use it to tinker and create
beats with it, as the interface is really really nice. The
effects are kind of cheesy, not as warm as I'd like. I guess
with the ER-1 though you're stuck with the preset sounds, so
that's what you've got to deal with. With the ES-1 you can
load up samples and use them, so it's a lot more flexible.

Tried it a bit, got a free one and didn't like it to much,
great for sampling though, just toss it into the computer
and play with the wav files to get a desired sound.

for the most part, its good for a while, but you need some
external effects to get it sounding warm. to metalic for
me, thats why i sampled it and processed it through my
plugins

Yeah, and it uses the weird ass 32khz sampling. I was going
nuts for a while also, trying to save 32khz samples, when I
realized that Soundforge fuckin' saves them as 24 bit by
default and the ES-1 only reads 8/16 bit .WAV's

Pretty lame, but once you get it, its not so bad. The ring
mod is particularly bad on the ES-1 imo. Much different than
the ring mod i've played with elsewhere.

After typing that last email, I've started considering
sending it back, heh.

You can also warm up the effects quite a bit by resampling
at various stages, and then re-running them through the
compressor/isolator/resonance
