Has anyone seen this film? God, what a shitty movie. I can't believe i wasted two hours of my life because of it. The acting was bad, story was so simple i wanted to puke. I mean really, i've actually heard people praising this lame excuse for a "film", oh well...

its an alright movie, sure its a little melodramatic in places, but i thought edward norton gave an excellent performance.
i remember going to see a preview showing of it a few months before it came out[couldnt be bothered staying for the talk about the movie afterwards]which was very funny because there were some mistakes in the movie which had the entire audiance laughing, several scenes where the boom wandered between the actors[this was obviously sorted afterwards].:)

hum, if you were thinking it was an action movie or something, then ya, you might not enjoy it, but damn, it is a very powerful and intriguing movie.
Edward Norton had some balls to play that role, and he did it well. The hate was so real, the pain so present.
I've honestly never heard a single person say they didn't feel real uncomfortable and moved after the movie, it crosses a lot of emotions.
Too bad it didn't appeal to you, it is a wonderfully powerful and insightful film.

Oh my god, i thought Aphex Twin fans were smarter than that. No, i wasn't looking for an action movie, just something that would be better than your average after-school special. And that's insactly what it was, an after-school special, that only stupid teenagers enjoy.

I enjoyed the film also Very sensitive material handled effectively brutal in places but not sugary violence a la Hollywood; genuinely disturbing stuff.
It seems you are in a minority here johnnyboy, which is fine. Vive la difference .. or something .

It is melodramatic and overly tidy. It's been awhile since I've seen it, but what I remember disliking is the simplistic explanations and resolutions to the problems that arise in the film. How did this man become so angry? It appears as though a few dinner conversations with his racist father was all it took. How did he change his ways? A few conversations with a black 'co-worker' in prison and a good buggering. How did he change his brothers ways? Again, it appears, only a fleeting conversation about how he was wrong. Racism, hate and the motivations behind them are far to grand in scope to be handled in ninety-minutes of film. I don't like Hollywood trying to depict social issues. It NEVER works. This includes any film attempting to deal with: Gays, AIDS, HMO's, The Justice System, Racism, Adoption, Alcoholism, Welfare, Poverty...etc. It's to difficult to depict a fictionalized story about real-life problems when these subjects are better suited and more effective in a documentary. I will say that Edward Norton was f'n ripped in the movie.

A great movie, though it DOES have some melodrama and gooey sappy stuff in there... still... the issues it tackles are powerful. And Edward Norton is built like a muthafucka! He looks like he could kick some ass in that one. Baldness exagerates one's toughness.

it's cool, some of you critics were actually dead on about the things that true movie reviewers disliked in the movie.
Roger Ebert- "... his father's dinner table conversation; his father tutors him in racism, but the scene feels like tacked-on motivation, and the movie never convincingly charts Derek's path to race hatred. "
Ebert gave it 3/4 stars, and even though I believe it was a really good film, I will applaude those who pointed out it's weaknesses in a respectable and intelligent manner.
It's a relief from the typical, That Suxors. that is all people will give of their oppions. Cool.

As for me, the film is fairly good as the piece of art (it is really rather simple - not a serious-level film like Kubrick's or Kurosawa's). But as the "messenger" this film is GREAT. I think it really makes all dumb assholes (who are the majority of ppl in the world) to THINK about racism and realize what a shit it is. And yes, it IS rather moving - I don't usually care about what's going on the screen, but that moment with "put your teeth..." is phat...
