Problems in Perspective

I got this e-mail as a forwarded message, and even tho I
usually hate forwarded emails, I thought this one really put
everything in perspective that's been happening in my
country recently... probably wont have as big of an impact
on non-americans but I thought I'd share anyway. :)
------------------------------------------------
And we said O.K.

In light of the many perversions and jokes we send along to
one
another for a laugh, this is a little different:
This joke today is not intended to be a joke, it's not
intended to be funny,
it's intended to get you thinking.
~~
Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show
and Jane Clayson
asked her "How could God let something like this happen?"
(regarding the attacks on Sept. 11 ).
~~
Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful
response. She said "I believe God is deeply saddened by
this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God
to get out of our schools, to get out of our
government and to get out of our lives. And being the
gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can
we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if
we demand He leave us alone?"
~~
In light of recent events...terrorists attack, school
shootings,
etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she
was murdered, her body found recently) complained she didn't
want prayer in our schools,
and we said OK.
~~~
Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school...
the Bible says
thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your
neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.
~~~
Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children
when they misbehave because their little personalities would
be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's
son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what
he's talking about. And we said OK.
~~~
Then someone said teachers and principals better not
discipline our children when they misbehave. The school
administrators said
Then someone said teachers and principals better not
discipline our children when they misbehave. The school
administrators said no faculty member in this school better
touch a student when they misbehave because we don't want
any bad publicity, and we surely don't want to be sued.
(There's a
big difference between disciplining, touching, beating,
smacking, humiliating, kicking, etc.).
And we said OK.
~~~
Then someone said, let's let our daughters have abortions if
they
want, and they won't even have to tell their parents. And we
said OK.
~~~
Then some wise school board member said, since boys will be
boys
and they're going to do it anyway, let's give our sons all
the condoms they want so they can have all the fun they
desire, and we won't have to tell their parents they got
them at school. And we said OK.
~~~
Then some of our top elected officials said it doesn't
matter what we do in
private as long as we do our jobs. Agreeing with them, we
said it doesn't
matter to me what anyone, including the President, does in
private as long as I have a job and the economy is good. (I
dont have a prob with this one)
~~~
Then someone said let's print magazines with pictures of
nude women and call it wholesome, down-to-earth appreciation
for the beauty of the female body.
And we said OK
~~~
And then someone else took that appreciation a step further
and published
pictures of nude children and then further again by making
them available on the Internet. And we said OK, they're
entitled to free speech.
~~~
Then the entertainment industry said, let's make TV shows
and movies that
promote profanity, violence, and illicit sex. Let's record
music that encourages rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and
satanic themes. And we said it's just entertainment, it has
no adverse effect, nobody takes it seriously anyway, so go
right ahead.
~~~
Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no
conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it
doesn't bother them to kill str

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no
conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it
doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and
themselves.
~~~
Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can
figure it out. I
think it has a great deal to do with "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW."
~~~
Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then
wonder why
the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the
newspapers
say, but question what the Bible says.
~~~
Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they
spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages
regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing.
~~~
Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass
freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is
suppressed in the school and workplace.
~~~
Are you laughing?
Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send
it to many on
your address list because you're not sure what they believe,
or what they WILL think of you for sending it. Funny how we
can be more worried about what other people think of us than
what God thinks of us.
Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not then just
discard it... no one
will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process,
don't
sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in!
Are you thinking?
Be the person that you were born to be, not the person that
someone else was born to be" ~Angel~
funny how guilt trips never work, and just provoke people to
go against what that person is saying......
somehow the fact its just a fowarded message detracts
somehow
the world isnt getting better or worse, its just changing
methinks... all people didn't say OK to all that.
so why would they be "punished" too?
it's like, adam and eve were punished, banished from eden's
garden, because they ate the apple — but were their
children punished too? they didn't eat the apple. is it
fair?
i don't think god has a personality or anything if it
exists.
and i don't think justice exists at all either, because we
all have different conceptions of "good" and "bad", "fair"
and "unfair", etc.
i dont believe that everything in that message is true, I
don't even believe in god. I do think that it points out
some of the things that are happening in my country, good or
bad. i dont think that everyone said OK to all those things
too, but from my experience, most of the people here would
share an attitude similar to the one in the message.
mylittlesister: it's not really intended to be a guilt trip,
tho I could see how it might be perceived as one.
xtiaan: i dont see how the fact that it is a forwarded
message detracts from it... if u had heard it on the radio
or tv, would that matter?
that's cool
kinda a nice way to broach the subject of God into more
people's brains.
The part about God being sad about people dying is pretty
powerful either way, I've certainly never thought of a
higher power looking onto this world in that fashion.
Good stuff ZT
there should be prayer in schools. Am I a terrorist now?
Is God going to kill me?
That email is disturbing
I sent that chain email on (I usually just delete them),
just because I liked the point that we are always sending on
cras jokes etc. rather than "serious" chain letters and y
still people complain of the decline of society.
I hated that email. Its like they're basically saying, if
you dont accept God and and start allowing prayer in
schools, he will not protect you: therefore bad things will
happen to you.
These Christian fundamentalists need to fuck off. God loves
everyone, not just the rich people who give him all their
money.
If Jesus where alive today he'd be trying to fix these
fanatics because they twisted His words to their own liking.
bullshit... and trite garbage.
Billy Graham was a millionaire conman.
Sounds like his daughter is trying to eclipse him.
Bet Gods proud of the pair of 'em.
Anyways, I like pictures of nude women, but I don't equate
it with glamourising murder & violence as that
fundamentalist totalitarian tyrant of a bitch does. God had
fuck all to do with 9/11. Blame the US government, not
prudish morality over nudism .
"I believe in freedom of religion and I don't think that
there should be prayer in schools. Am I a terrorist now? Is
God going to kill me?"
That's not what this email is saying at all. It's saying
that people have done everything they can to push God out of
their lives, and then wonder why God doesn't protect them
from bad things happening. Not that he/she/it ever stopped
bad things from happening before... but lately it seems more
and more people are losing their faith in religion.
I really fail to see what is disturbing about this email.
Its intent is to make you consider things you might not have
before. It's not saying "Worship god all day or bad things
will continue to happen to the world." It's merely puting
things into perspective and instead, saying "some bad things
will always happen, but who has been showing any faith,
anyway?"
at least thats how I interpret it.
Look at how many people show faith in the West Bank &
Israel.
Whose God do you side with ; or do you you assume Gods
always on yours ?
well, if there is a god I don't think he'd be on my side
since I don't believe in his existence to begin with. I know
many peoples in other parts of the world still show great
faith in their religion, but in America the number is
steadily declining....
OK ZT: my point was simply that the high levels of faith in
religion in the middle east have directly contributed to the
carnage there.
So much slaughter has been commited in the name of religion,
and this war on terror has a hint of a crusade about it....
so.... basically I'm not getting drawn into the false "Lets
go back to our creationist bible classes" sentiment of Ms
Graham
forgotten their religion alltogether...
Yeah I understand, your interpretation is that people who
"push god away" shouldn't complain to god if something bad
happens. I agree with that.
The original message however is clearly written by a
christian and comes across as fingerpointing, numerous sins
are being described and this is all indirectly(and that's
the dangerous bit) linked to all the bad things happening in
the USA(is the USA the only troubled area?). No, my
interpretation of this story is that it's a story to convert
insecure and scared people into christianity instead of
letting them think about the real issues.
I don't think that God has to do with 9/11. It is the act
of MAN alone. So I think equating the removal of religion
from mainstream society to some crazy fundamentalist fucks
destroying buildings is ridiculous.
The email is disturbing to me because it is trying to blame
the average American for terrorism.
But I like watching sex & nudity
I like the idea of kids not being whacked
I like the idea of kids not being born in 'shame'
(anti-abortion / no condoms 4 kids campaigners tend to let
this fact sail over their heads)
I like freedom & privacy
I like watching TV without assuming that I'm being
'promoted' whatever it shows... its an idiot box..... I
don't do whatever it says
I like all the things this woman clearly resents. Fact is,
if it weren't for her having something to crusade AGAINST ,
she'd be out of a job. She digs all the bad shit really....
make up their own minds[i did,and i was forced as a child to
go to church/sunday school etc.etc.]who says there is a
god,and what about other religions,why arnt these educated
in the way christianity is at school.
I hate brainwashing preaches like that[and mine],people can
be so nieve,i dont really have a point,it just annoyed me a
bit[although i liked the bit about dr spock]even though she
did have a point,its just ruined with the word of the lord
