I'm sorry but all this talk of the US goverment and the
middle east and different political issues is driving me up
the wall.
I log on here to forget what a fucked up place this world
is.
I dont nee dconstantly reminded that the world is run by a
bunch of morons.

maybe i'm just to dumb to understand it all, but at least my
ignorance keeps me happy!

theres nothing wrong w/ discussing a little politics and
world issues here..... there are a lot of really smart
people on this board who are fun to talk to!

...its racist bullshit that pissess me off

those threads were not a discussion about politics..... they
were someone making some stupid comments that are impossible
to discuess reasonably because they are irrational racist
bullshit

some reason :D

You don't have to open all the political threads... It's
just a few words on your screen if you don't open them. Many
people here think it's interesting to talk about it...

Racism is hatred of a person for the color of their skin.
Racism is discrimination against people just on general
principles because of their race. However, to be
anti-Christian, or anti-Jewish is NOT racism!. It means you

are against the things for which the religious group stands,

for the actions they take which are opposed to your own
beliefs. If a group, any religious group, is doing evil,
cruel things to another group, it is NOT evil, and NOT
racism to be anti that group. It is good to be anti any
group that does evil things!

yes because most music topics on every artist have been
covered probably twice, so yeah, even on an aphex board.
It's a community not just about aphex but the people who are
in it

I think it's good to discuss stuff outside of AFX....we're
all people leading real lives (or "3D" lives as an old flame
would've put it) and we can learn a lot from each other...we
may not always agree on things but that's all part of a good
discussion...

I was chuffed to see how well everyone handled that trolly
chesmione character....the only good way to handle racism
is to confront it & don't let it go unchallenged...

Yeah come on people. I mean really... this is
aphextwin.nu.... If I want to hear about politics I can
watch CNN....you know. Everybody is going to have different
beliefs on politics. So its not something people will agree
on fully. Its true people need to be informed about it, and
that it is good to talk about different things. But not by a
biased or one sided person. And the news usually trys not to
be one sided most of the time... but no doubt the news
lies... but then where are we going to hear about new events
in the world. And the media can not censor all of it... so
some of it is bound to be true.
I hate politics... its all corrupt... people in high places
all over the world are idiots... except for a handful. So
lets try and keep the political threads to a minimum.. ....
please

offline WeaklingChild from Glasgow (United Kingdom) on 2002-08-08 21:03 [#00342191]

i'm not saying we need to talk about aphex all the time.
just try and keep it a bit more positive and light hearted
as opposed to talking about politics.

offline afxNUMB from So.Flo on 2002-08-08 21:06 [#00342195]

A intellectual conversation about politics is not wrong, it
opens your mind to other peoples thoughts...I did that and 2
people called me insulting names, but it didnt stop me
because they are the ingnorant ones....Eventhough most of
the threads are attacking the US Government, its still
something we can learn from eachother

But then I say that those threads shouldnt come off as an
attack, just conversation.

i like hearing about politics on here. I hardly watch tv
anyways so I dont hear about all the stupid things these
politicians are doing so I get some from here.

offline Mickey Mouse from The Moon on 2002-08-08 21:11 [#00342203]
Points: 4130 Status: Addict

Most people here I think take conversation as an attack in
general..... because they feel emotional about what they are
talking about... so when someone disagrees....they feel
attacked.... I am all for conversation... but when people
are just spamming what they could have heard on CNN that
night(*cough*flea*cough*) its kinda ridiculous. But then
agian I am the mouse who spams spice girls lyrics... but at
least people dont start flame wars about them......... yet

I personally dont take anything said online or in my face by
complete strangers personal.....I'm talking about the
threads where people are directly speaking about the US
Governemnt.

You have to be aware of Politics... It's the only way to
keep Govts in check. If everyone ignored it (actually most
people do) Politians would / do get away with all sorts.
Then again, i've never voted. Am I a hypocrite or what? I
just can't bring myself to vote for any of 'em.

But you should still be aware of what decisions are being
made on your behalf.

Oh and listen to Dead Kennedys!

I feel threatened by the US government and I'm affraid of
the consequences of their actions that's why many of us
non-US people tend to react aggressive towards it and it's
followers.

Well I'm not saying I feel completely safe towards the US
Government, I dont think anyone protects me but myself, but
there is a sense of I know who I am and I can stand right
outside the White House and know those people are protecting
me, But its one thing to insult people like me cause all of
you are from Europe, and its another to understand as an
American citizen things are just different for me.

aw come on there were about five "political" threads out of
several thosand last night..maybe you are pissed off because
they were the most frequently posted to as compared to the
rest...well people will post to whatever they want to post
to..there were plenty of musical threads...like laserbeak
said..they are just a few words on your screen until you
click and unravel them..just avoid the compulsion to do so
next time...

When you say you come here to forget about that stuff I can
understand. I was in the UK less then 2 years ago it is very
different in terms of open political discussions. I watch
foreign news to get real news. Stuff just isn't covered in
america and some people may only hear of topics like this in
places like this. It's unfortunate. In the end I think it's
a good thing. I'm not to crazy about it when things turn
into a name calling match though.

If you don't like political topics don't click on them?
C'mon, I love to hear about world issues as much as I like
to hear about Aphex Twin. Don't try to lay ground rules cuz
it will blow up. (I've seen this many times before) just get
over it, It's not really that bad.

Yeah I agree, just post on topics that interest you and if
people post on other ones, that's obviously what they
would rather talk about.

Why post a thread telling people that they shouldn't discuss
issues that have an enormous impact on their lives? I could
post a thread saying that anally retentive music
trainspotters posting topics on their 'top ten Autechre
tracks listened to on a Wednesday afternoon when the wind is
blowing in an easterly direction' depress me ("oh lord, tell
me humanity has not plummeted to such depths of inaneness")
but I won't.

Leave us all alone and don't act like the Thought Police. As
many have said: "You don't like? Don't read".

i love the politacl threads on this mb...there's a whole
world of ppl here all comign from diffrent countries, all
with extreamly diffrent views on mine.

Have you ever heard of the butterfly effect? Basically, the
quote goes like this: the meer flappign of a buterfly's
wings can destroy a galaxy millions of light years away.

IT's because of this that we must take notice of everything
we can; no matter how off topic, or insignificant it may
seem.

How are we sure that london won't be bonbed by the
terrorists, and that rdj himself get in his tank and romps
dwn to afganistan? (really far fetched...but i need a
laugh). See, we need to keep up on these things. :)

Spot on. I like seeing other peoples POVs and esp. reading
what their media says. One of my UK mates had an e-mail
friend in kosovo and they compared notes on what their
respective medias said. V. different stories...

Re: RDJ joining in. That'd be nuts. It'd be cool to have
rich as some post apocalyptic leader driving through the
burnt out streets of london in his armoured car, mad max
stylee :)
