What type of mic do you use?
My gf is organising a musical talent contest for amnesty international and needs to get a (not overly expensive) microphone that will be used in a pub linked to an average quality PA system. The quality doesn't have to be superb, but it shouldn't sound awful either.
What sort of frequency response range do I need to get and can you point me in the direction of any particular models?
Any ideas on a cheap mic stand as well?
Cheers.

Christ! You associate with Amnesty?! I'll be on the phone to the chair of Barry Conservative Party ASAP to let them know they've a closet commie fag in their ranks.
Sorry, I'm spamming.

No, it was the Bristol "Conservative Future" (or "Hitler Youth" as they're affectionately termed by more liberal Bristonians) I was associated with. Admitting to being conservative in Barry is asking for a kicking...
As I've said, I'm an "ethical" capitalist, I believe work tha tbenefits others should be rewarded and not greed.

When I said "not overly expensive" I meant less than £50, not under £300!

get microphones made by Shure...
their BETA series is prolly the best price vs. features out there...
a good vocal mic from them would be the Beta 58A... $159 usd... but hey, IT'S A FUCKING GREAT MIC!

oh... *under 50 pounds* i'd say the SM58 as well... made by shure as well...
the frequency response on that mic is 50Hz-15kHz... built in windscreen and pop filter $99usd
----------- Or
get a good EV microphone... the N/D267a Dynamic Cardioid
ideal for vocal stuff in live performance ... a lil more expensive but it's EV... shit load of features!
