I agree titworth..it wasnt a note for not comparison...I was merely stating that what radiohead are doing is hardly unique..I mean stuff Bowie and Eno did together has somewhat the same resonance..but that was done three decades ago..and I am not just talking about use of electronics... but use of minimal..ambient textures... and I DO NOT hate radiohead..I was just saying that they are EASY to hate...some of the rhytms..and synthwork held my interest more on Amnesiac than it did on KID A..but more than that..I prefered their prog rock jams with caustic feed back laden guitar on OK Computer and the ..at that time their sound was bordering on unique..I mean mixing the guitar tech insipired by Steve Albini mixed with song structure of early 70's english prog rock..I mean that was pretty inventive as the two are generaly regarded as the anithesis of each other...stuff on KID A I am afraid..most of it was echo, reverb, effect laden piano ogan synthwork wrapped around ballads...was in no way unique... |

Although switch's reasons for hating radiohead really don't make sense, it also doesnt make sense to say something like "i love radiohead so therefore anyone who dislikes them must be totally ignorant to what original music is." and anyone who denies that radiohead is mainstream is lying to themselves. I could ask 100 people if they had heard of radiohead and probably 90 would say yes. Just because people know who they are doesn't make them BAD. so what the fuck difference does it make? |

Radiohead are a very mainstream band..but i think what makes them fabulous to me is that they are a great band, much like a sort of (imo of course..) pink floyd or beatles of our time..It doesn't matter how much experimental music i listen to, I still haven't gone off radiohead, oh and if you don't like them, i don't mind :) the new stuff they're doing is really great too, the live tracks that have been leaked.. |

I don't 'hate' Radiohead.That would simply be immature and childish.They write their own material, can play their own instruments and a lot of people obviously like them.I just personally find them depressing.Life is bad enough.I'd rather have the antidote(Prozac?).Just wait 'til UR my age,then tell me if you see what I meant(!). };> |

yea you're right i hear some pixies influence in "my iron lung", bad example. but i don't think any radiohead songs (and i mean "any") sound exactly like another band. btw doctorvee, i wrote a whole paper comparing SAW2 to one of reich's works. you might be interested in reading it, here it is: |

flea: "prog rock jams" on ok computer? i must have a different version... btw i don't think rh's music on the last 2 albums are very "minimal" at all. they're more layered than ok computer and that's a brilliant album. i mean listen to "in limbo" with the two competing time signatures between three guitars. or the orchestrated "how to disappear completely." or how about the difficult to deconstruct eeriness of "like spinning plates." don't dis radiohead cos reviewers do, come at this with your own heart. maybe you lost interest in their last 2 albums after listening to pure idm. that's a shame and a big loss for you cos there's no reason why you should let two completely different things cancel each other out. it's like not eating apples anymore cos you've taken a liking to tacos. |

Titsworth, thanks for that link! It was quite an interesting read, though difficult as I haven't heard a full performance of Music For 18 Musicians. I've bookmarked it, and I'll read it again once I've bought a copy. :) |

I heard the string quartet version of Kid A, and I thought it was good. But I cant say I like then very much when he sings... he sure looks goofy when he preforms live... got to give him something for that |

I agree titsworth! Although I think the trick is that it sounds minimalist, but isn't. For example, listen to Treefingers for the first time, and one could see it as just a three-minute long drone. But actually, there's an awful lot going on in that. You just have to listen carefully. I feel that sort of thing for a lot of Radiohead's recent stuff [especially Everything In Its Right Place, Idioteque, Kid A...]. |

there's just one Nonesuch Recording, it's from 1998 i believe. i have a radiohead page as well, and on it you can find "fun facts" about treefingers and other COMPLEX songs on the last 2 albums. everyone reading this should click here to learn more about these supposedly "shitty, rip-off" albums. plain and to the point |

Radiohead are wonderful. Kid A isn't as earth-shattering or brilliant as many make it out to be, but I like it for the most part. Nothing they've done comes close to the greatness of OK Computer, though. Oh, and has anyone listened to their new stuff? There's some crappily recorded MP3's from their recent gigs in Portugal and Spain on the net right now. So far the new stuff seems to be a great improvement over the Kid A/Amnesiac material (and they've brought back Lift! But now it's slow and dreamy sounding...I like it but I prefer the original...). From what I've heard so far the standouts are Scatterbrain, Myxomatosis, We Suck Young Blood and There There. You can find the stuff on pretty much any Radiohead site. |

Yeah, I like the new songs, another progression in their sound yet again. More piano. I like very much. My favourites are A Punch Up At A Wedding, We Suck Young Blood and Wher I End Nd Yu Begin. |

ok ok, so some of us don't like the band.. that's fine. i like robe's take on it. so you don't like the band, don't be a prick about it. i have to say, there is stuff out there, Photeck for instance, i don't really LIKE it but i don't hate it. it is more like i see and acknowlge the talent, but i don't have to make it a part of the music i listen to... i'm not making any sence.. |

It is what it is, man. It get's the job done. The beats on Pyramid Song would be alright, if it just wasn't so sloppy. Don't remember Exit Music. I like the video for Pyramid Song though. |
