You know, in the past couple of weeks, I've noticed in passing that they're are many folks in the mainstream that really hate Radiohead.
At 2:00am on Friday night, I actually saw a video on MTV that was a very bad Kid Rock song. It showed him 'at home'. He goes to the toliet to take a dump and you notice that 'Radiohead' is printed on the toliet paper.....
I think it's funny....

Radiohead are my favourite band. And it's fair enough if you don't like them.
But what I hate is a lot of people in IDM circles who seem to think that Kid A and Amnesiac was some kind of invasion of territory. I didn't get all the people who said Kid A sounds just like Autechre. Since when did Autechre have guitars? Or comprehensible vocals?
Sorry about that. Glad to have got that off my chest. :)

i think buddyhead said it best when they wrote: In Kid Rock's new video, he wipes his ass with toilet paper that says "Radiohead" on it. We were surprised he didn’t use the dildo that he usually wipes it with.

anyway, i love radiohead. i also love when idm/electronica snobs put down radiohead for integrating (more) electronics into their last 2 albums. they claim that the last 2 albums are simply attempts to mimic aphex twin and autechre. ignorant and completely unfounded comments like tell me which people to listen to and which to ignore.

I can't explain it Tits, I just hate them. I can't stand anything about them. I hate his voice so much, whining and droning on like the miserable middle-class Oxford twat he is. I hate the way he sings with an American accent (why? Probably to appeal to mass-market America and therefore sell more records).
I hate the fact that there earlier stuff was just watered-down grunge with a bit of Britpop/Indie shite thrown in for good measure. And now their latest stuff is just a fucking pale imitation of Warp stuff. With some token guitars thrown in. Oh, and his fucking voice again.
A pile of fetid, steaming wank.

Kid Rock is just stupid.
My favorite part in that video is where they show a photo of him with a military uniform or something on and it says at the bottom "I'll kick his ass" 'Rock to take on Bin Laden'. What a fucking moron.
I don't like Radiohead, but I wouldn't say that I 'hate' them.

his voice is an acquired taste, i'll give you that -- BUT, it doesn't sound american to me. as for pablo honey, i think that's a great album. a bit derivative of the music that was around at the time, but then again what wasn't? listen to the music that came out in 1993 like smashing pumpkins, belly, and the breeders, it didn't have to be from seattle to have a grunge influence. as for the warp comment, see what i wrote above. you must be listening with both ears covered to reach that conclusion.

but they're a damn sight more talented than many other popular rock bands.
Dis-liking them for whining & being middle class is a cute observation. I'm less disdainful since hearing "Idioteque". I think they make good music. fair play to 'em.
Kid Rock sounds like a publicity hungry tosser

I read some story about Kid Rock once where he said that he just thought that Radiohead was boring and he wouldn't play it at a party but he'd play it when he was at the office updating web pages or something, hahahaha. I don't care what that idiot says.

Probably the best band in the world, but I have some qualms with them... Thom's voice is great, but I don't like it... not sure what I mean, but it's not my kind of voice. Bit over the top. But it IS good, just... not my thing.
And I don't like their electronic experiments... just not my thing, again... may be the wrong way to look at things, but when I heard Kid A, I thought the electronic thing was great, then I heard Aphex as a result (they got me into him), and then it sounded decidedly LESS great. Sucks to be me and to see things that way... but their electronic work just doesn't impress me now... but they rock like nobody else, they're just one of a kind. Best band in the world, definitely, but not perfect.
Haven't heard their new songs, but the OLD ones annoy me with their lack of happiness... odd, because I HATE happy songs... I dunno. I'm just typing out random thoughts, so of course I'm not making sense. They fucking rule, though.

Flea, I don't think Radiohead sound anything like Tortoise. For a start, where are Tortoise's vocals? Where's the madcap jazz and the ambient? A Tortoise track that sounds like Idioteque?
Stereolab don't sound like Radiohead either. I've never heard any Pram.
Kid A and Amnesiac are far more than just electronic and rock put together. There's jazz, ambient, poppy-dance, and... uh... Morning Bell / Amnesiac.

flea i respect your musical tastes but you're off your mark on those comparisons. i love tortoise but they've never made anything with the depth and variety of a radiohead album. oh yea, plus they don't have lyrics. and stereolab? you're trying a little too hard there. yea, they both use warm sounding synths and fx pedals and have been remixed by artists on warp (rh: lfo; stereo: autechre), but so what? one has female vocals and the other male. and the lyrical differences are huge. plus, again - radiohead albums have a ton more variety. stereolab albums are cool but most of the songs sound the same. that's why i can't remember the titles. and again, not as much melodic progression. as for blending rock and electronics, i don't think anyone REALLY (and i mean outside of this board) is claiming that radiohead pioneered that. i mean look at neu!, kraftwerk's side project in the early 70s. that was prog rock plus synth stuff. radiohead aren't pioneering music, just exploring themselves as a band. what's new is relative to them, not the world (except for the many people who are into radiohead but weren't into electronica until kid a and amnesiac album. in this case you should laud the band for introducing people to new things. they never claimed (and i challenge you to find evidence to the contrary) to have done anything that's never been done before.).

yeah...i think some of the radiohead hating is a bit over the top...
they seem like one of those bands that ..either you love them or hate them.there doesnt seem to be any in between..
i can understand people disliking them...but to make it a point to declare ones absolute hatred seems a bit much for a band like radiohead (see: 'type of music you hate' thread) especially when there are much more hate-able bands out there ..oasis is a good example
i think maybe because radiohead are kinda on the line between underground and mainstream...they have an underground mindset, and try to operate as an underground independant band would, but have mainstream success and popularity
so its like they're the target of resentment for kids who are way too hip to like anything thats not what they consider to be purely underground...these kids see them as posers profiting off of 'their' music...which i dont think is the case

for one thing, radiohead are hardly mainstream. also, its predictable enough that most of you are upset at radiohead for even daring to attempt electronic music. i think its admirable and probably got a good deal of people into afx who wouldn't have given him a passing glance. anyway, atleast get kid a right, it hardly sounds like afx, more boards of canada, especially on the title track. radiohead are just a band evolving, and listen to ok computer and honestly tell me you HATE this band, because i won't believe it.
