i think offspring are pretty good if you're in the mood for
it. it's just fun music. i don't like anything they've done
since 1997 tho.

christian music sucks! christian rock, pop, r&b, metal,
whatever. it blows. and this is coming from a christian.

Jazz. I hate fucking jazz. Actually, let me restate that: I
fucking hate jazz. It is the most self-indulgent music on
Earth. Of course, there are jazz tunes I like, but in
general it is the most annoying noise ever if you're not in
the mood for it.

what, and idm isn't self-indulgent? idm is just straight

I like pop.

I dont like rock music (or many of its offshoots and
variations). How many musicians does it take to realize that
EVERYTHING THAT COULD POSSIBLY BE DONE WITH A GUITAR HAS
BEEN and it ALL SOUNDS SO derivative and clichè?

Dont jump on me, I want to learn to play bass and what have
you, but the guitar is so boring.

Other than that I like just about anything.

Ludacris rules and you all know it!!!

He is the most hilarious rapper I have ever heard, even if
he only talks about money and sex. I laugh out loud every
time I listen to his albums.

and re-think your statement

And I am pretty sure that anything godspeed seems to do with
guitars has been done already. I think its more their other
string instruments that capture that really nice ambience.

Mogwai is nice (I saw them live and had a great time), but
not terribly original.

Tortoise just kind of sounds like a bad jamming band as far
as I am concerned.

i have to agree

its very self indulgent...

jazz is self indulgent in that, the whole form of jazz, is
based on show caseing the performers ability to play fancy
scales and modes and chords very fast

its such a show off genre

i do like some jazz... but most of it is the minimal stuff

how can someone dislike Miles, Coltrane, or any kind of
jazz?????????

(...)

well, anyways, COUNTRY has to be the worst music known to
mankind.
Followed tightly by late 70´s "harley" rock music like
Fogghat and so.

C'mon Zeus, jazz isn't about showcasing talent. Its about
creativity and expression. Otherwise you could say that
electronica is just a form of music that allows people like
AFX to showcase what they can do with technology. I mean, to
me Go Plastic would fit this category. Its completely
sprawling (except Red Hot Car).

I like mogwai. A lot (except for rock action... I could have
gone without hearing that one). I just dont think they sound
that original.

Not saying a lot of the music I listen to isnt derivitave,
just that guitar based music is way too derivative for me.
Atmospheric postrock notwithstanding.

while this is true...

i think its 1000000x more with Jazz.

i mean, the songs are built to be played in order of melody,
then people take solos, then play the melody again and end

the core of it all is the soloing

at least with electronic music, it doesnt follow this
certain preconcieved structure.

sure IDM could be "showing off" talent with technology...
but i think it less self indulgent then jazz.

and fuck... if you only knew jazz players

aroggent as fuck

(me and sacharin both go to Berklee, a music school. it has
everything, but its most known for its jazz.. so we get it
shoved down out throats ALWAYS... and while we are trying to
do new stuff with electronic music, we have all these narrow
minded jazz musicians that think Jazz is the only music out
there, and playing an instrument is the only way to make
music. and nothing new is happening with jazz. its been done
over and over...

squarepusher's "music is rotted one note" is the only
example of good, ground breaking jazz any time recently

Johnny Cash has some good stuff. Though most country is
truly awful. Hip hop has ONLY just taken over as the biggest
selling genre in the US. Foreign policy aside, if this isn't
reason enough to be anti-American I don't know what is.
