this topics probably been done before, but i'm going to do
it again. personally, i think SAW 2 was designed from sleep
for sleep, but if anyone here has some less obvious albums,
i'd like to know.

I sleep to 'A Stairway to the Stars' by 'The Caretaker' or
some thunderstorm CD's. I like ambient sounds playing when I
sleep.

i've been putting on MHTRTC alot at night lately. But i
guess that one is also still rather obvious.

Ehr... 2 days ago i listened to squarepusher (go plastic) in
my sleep!

I actually find the really chaotic and complex music like
that to be really soothing, strange as it may sound. The
music is just so complex that your mind doesn't have time to
think about anything else. I slept like a baby :-)

a real freaky album to try to sleep to is the first Godspeed
album, F#A#infinity. It can actually be kind of scary
falling asleep in the middle of that album and then waking
up and becoming really disoriented by how intense the music
is.

Jilted Generation was always a good album coz If you stir
during the night, You'd notice how scary ass the music
really is.... So fun.

An early document of tactile experimentation by Brian
Lustomord.

Very good "sleep" music.

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Vol. II

Brian Eno - Ambient 1-4 - They're all good for sleep.

Akira Yamaoka - Silent Hill 2 OST - If you don't mind taking
a few random trips in and out of hell, this one has some
very nice ambient tracks.

Some of the tracks on SAW2 are a little too disturbing for
good sleeping. :-) With a couple of edits it would be
great...

Favorite falling asleep albums are Eno: On Land and Stars of
the Lid: the Ballasted Orchestra

Silence doesnt exist in my room, you've gotta play music to
get to sleep...i've been doing this for a year or two.

Cause theres 2 clocks that tick and a computer going and
there distracting.
SAW 2 has been a favourite.. MHTRTC is also a good one...
anything by Squarepusher is probably gonna get me out of bed
rather than asleep.

Oddly enough, I've slept to Squarepusher's Go Plastic. I
guess I felt like listening to it or something.

More:

FSOL - Lifeforms, ISDN, Dead Cities

I posted this in another topic.
I've listened to Aphex Twin - SAWII every night since I got
it!!!!
Ive become so dependent on it, I couldn't fall asleep
without if I tyred!
I listen to it during the day sometimes to so that has to be
some sort of record for most listened cd. I personally think
it's the best cd ever created by any artist. Recenetly I
just lost disc 2, so I think Im going to have to purchase
the whole thing again =)>

but which disc from SAW II?
I tried sleeping to the 2nd disc one time, but just when i
had fallen asleep (blue calx is a nice lullaby :-)), that
track that is only a rhythm (#3 or #4 or something) woke me
up again!

disc 1 is much more soothing anyway. The first track is
possibly my favourite on the whole album (and i LOVE every
single one of them).

I've listened to SAWII (the second disc, with the louder
songs programmed out it excellent), Ambient 4 by Brian Eno,
and some Boards of Canada... A Beautiful Place Out in the
Country is good, but Geogaddi, and MHTRTC I just can't sleep
to... I find my mind can't relax cause it focuses on the
beats...

yeah, I cant fall asleep to anything with a heavy beat
because I will stay awake and listen to it, i need soft
acoustic guitar or ambient.

i encourage everyone to check out Owen. Definately some of
the most beautiful guitar melodies I've ever heard, not to
mention that most of his fans will swear by him as something
to fall asleep to! ;)

Merzbow!

No, SAW II of course..

Les Joyaux De La Princesse's album 'Aux Petits Enfants de
France' is also very good. 'Substrata' by Biosphere, 'Chill
Out' or 'Space' by KLF.

Or you can listen to anything really if you put it low
enough.

i tried going to sleep to saw2 disc one and managed to fall
asleep during Cliffs(track 1) but awoke during
Curtains(track 6). for some odd reason, that song scared the
hell out of me. its creepy in a subtle, subdued way, like
something is roaming beneath the surface.

Some of you may find this hard to believe, but Lipswitch is
an amazing album to help you get to sleep. Its also good if
you need something to help you in winning a fistfight and
many other things inbetween. Multipurpose? Multitextured?
Multitimbral? I think so...
