hm... i don't really know what to think about Go Plastic yet (bought it yesterday). I thought Hard Normal Daddy was one of the best CD's i ever heard, so my expectations were pretty high... but go plastic doesn't sound alot like that one ;-)
I dunno... alot of the track don't seem to make much sense to me. Just utter chaos! But I'm still quite confident it'll grow on me.
ANYWAY, the only track that I immediately loved, right from the first listen is "i wish you could talk"... this song is gorgeous. It almost makes me cry everytime i hear it.
but i wonder... before i bought go plastic i had this idea in my head that there was a squarepusher-song called "i wish you could talk, but you're my right hand". I'm not sure why... I must have read about it here on this messageboard (because this is the only place i ever read anything about squarepusher)... does anyone remember? Maybe it was just a joke someone made a long time ago? Or maybe the rumors before the album came out said it'd be called "... but you're my right hand?" (i remember reading before druqks came out that the first song would be called 'jynweythek vlow'... but the vlow seems to have vanished. Or (another example), before Kid A came out, i read everywhere that there would be a song on it called "how to dissapear completely and never be found"...)
I know this is a very vague question and probably no-one will know what i'm talking about. But I was actually quite surprised when I found out yesterday that the song was "just" called 'I wish you could talk'... and nothing more.
The search-option is useless, probably too many words or something, cause it just brings up random results when i search for "i wish you could talke but you're my right hand"

Hard Normal Daddy is one of these most amazing albums in my collection. The way he composes everything and how he sets it all up for you; it's just mind blowing.
He's such a well-versed musician. The man can play bass and make it sound so beautiful on one end, and so funky on the other. His programming skills are out of this world. All of this is showcased on Hard Normal Daddy and that is why I think it is such a good album.
Go Plastic is another favorite of mine. I love the fact that it's so chaotic and hard to swallow. I think that's what attracts me to it. I wish you could talk is one his best tracks ever, in my opinion. Very emotional. Greenways Trajectory is fucking insane; very harsh.

i think in 10.000 years time when the archeologists find a copy of Go Plastic, they will wonder what drove people to listen to this... voluntarely!
Next time i listen to it i will try to focus on greenways trajectory, thanks for the tip :-)
I really WANT to like this album, because hard normal daddy showed me what a genius tom jenkinson is... i'll just keep listening to it.

go plastic is probably my favourite idm album and i don't see it as chaotic-i think its pretty melodic and i love all tracks also it's not as ¨weird¨ as some other idm albums - that goes for people that are not into idm
some of my buddies prefer go plastic to most of the other idm stuff

Go Plastic is a masterpiece. When I first got it I thought I Wish You Could talk was the best song on the album, now I realize its one of the worst. It's like squarepusher gone down a level, to me its so wierd that its even on there, so different and plain compared to the rest of the style, just regular old drum n bass with a simple melody. Once you get into the Go Plastic style, you will fucking scream to the intense sounds of Boneville Occident, Go Spastic, The Exploding Psychology, Greenways Trajectory...

yes! That's what I'm hoping for! i really want to scream to those intense sounds! Damnit, i hope it starts making sense to me real soon!!
Maybe i shouldn't have bought music is rotted one note on the same day... i liked that one from the first time i heard it, and it's way too tempting to put that one on... hehe. I suspect if i had just bought go plastic i could listen to it more focussed.
But i WILL get there... sooner rather than later i hope i will make a post how much i love go plastic and how intense it sounds!

Well its hard to like go plastic if you don't like drum n' bass or drill n' bass. I've been listening to that kind of dance drum n' bass/jungle long before I heard squarepusher and that just took it up a level for me (or 10 levels), I can't really listen to that rave d'n'b stuff anymore. But you said you like Hard Normal Daddy (one of the best electronic albums ever made), and therefor you must be able to appreciate those drums. I started with tracks 1, 3, 6, and 10 when I got the album. The first couple minutes of Go Spastic are pretty accessible, so I would listen to that a bit, I love red hot car still, the beat is great, the breakdown rocks! If you can dig that at all listen to Boneville Occident (one of the most intense drill tracks ever), then check out The Exploding Psychology (which I gaurentee will become one of ur favorite []< songs) and Greenways Trajectory (which is fkin nuts). Try My Fucking Sound at your own risk ;).
You don't have to follow this at all but I basically wasn't that big a fan of GP (except for red hot car and i.w.y.c.t.) when I first heard it so I imagine you would probably go through the same sort of thing I did.

i fully agree with you on Hard Normal Daddy (one of the best electronic albums ever made)... and now that i think of it... it also took me awhile to get into 'chin hippy' (which definitely sound to me like the most "go plastic-ish" song on there).
I'm not too sure about Red Hot Car... the melody is not that interesting imo. I more like the way he fucks it up! :-p
It reminds me (this entire album reminds me of that more or less) of the last minute of "54 cymru beats".
Go Spastic was a good advice (listening to it as we speak). The way it changes around 1:40 is amazing. I love that part from about 1:40 to 2:10.
The first 3 times I listened to this album it just confused me. I couldn't discover ANY structure in most of the songs. But it's beginning to make a little more sense to me i think. (at least Go! Spastic is already at 4:00 and i'm still liking it).
About the boneville occident... there is a high-pitched sound in there that really freaks me out! (and gave me a headache yesterday). But again... i just listened to it, and i could take it pretty good today.
I wouldn't say i love it already, but i'm beginning to see the underlying structure in the tracks i think.
Your post has really wet my appetite for The Exploding Psychology xanatos! You guaranteeing it would be one of favourite sp-songs...mmm I can't wait to hear it again.
However... no matter how much i will or won't start to love all the other tracks, i can't imagine i will EVER grow tired of I wish you could talk!

when i put Richard D James album in an iMac computer and let it grab the songtitles from the web (i'm not sure what the program is called), it said the 5th track was called "corn mouth"... the warpsite lists that one as "carn marth".
Richard's handwriting on the CD could say both really ;-)

I love Go Plastic, and liked it a lot right off... I was kinda surprised with myself actually, that I liked it so much right off, but I guess Drukqs prepared me for it... I got totally what I was expecting and wanting when I bought Go Plastic, and so I guess that also helped... it's still fucking crazy, but I love that about it...

i wish you could talk is probably my favourite squarepusher track at this moment... i know what you mean with the crying synth ophecks :-) That's what makes the song sound so... eh... emotional. I luv it! It makes me so sad and melancholic.
But also the underlying melody is really special! "i wish you obelisk" is basically the same song, but without the melody... and it doesn't even come close. I mean the rhythm is still pretty good i think, but it's the melody that really grabs me everytime! "i wish you obelisk" sounds very cold and empty in comparison.
The best thing about the beats is that they're so fast and hectic, but also kinda static (not evolving)... the way they contrast with the melody is wonderful

a little joke eh? Well cheers to who-ever thought of it! I think it's great :-D And thanks for telling me titsworth, i'm glad someone (you) remembered it and knew what i was talking about :-)
What i like about the exploding psychology so far is that the beginning is so slow... with lots of silence, and then suddenly it all falls apart and becomes this really crazy chaotic... song :-)
The ending is very intense indeed... i'm starting to like it more and more.
God this CD is hard to get into... but I like that :-) cd's that i hate at first, and really have to listen to over and over before i start to like them, usually end up being my favourites. And it's been awhile since a CD challenged me as much as Go Plastic is doing

After having heard them both, Druqks sounds more like "Go Plastic lite" i think ;-)
Of course they are just different cd's... i like other things about aphex twin then i like about squarepusher. But it's a little bit like richard has taken the insanity and chaos from Go Plastic, and made it into more recognizable melodic and structured songs.
Boneville occident doesn't give me headaches anymore ;-) I've gotten used to those sounds quickly i guess. Actually i like that song alot. Even though i do think my red hot car is pretty good, and it's getting better and better... it still feels like boneville occident is the *real* start of the album.

Theres a totally georgeous video for "the exploding psychology"...done by a couple of guys (who's names escape me at the moment) as part of the CR/WARP SQPR video competition a few months back...
I've got em on DVD but I've seen some excellent .MOV versions on soulseek... if you've a decent connection, I believe you can view em over at WARP .... all of em
are very good but the exploding psychology one is my personal fave...
I emailed the guy who did it and got a really cool long email back from him...lost the fucker when my lappy when to

I think i've seen that video. If i remeber correctly it consisted of alot of eh... "patterns"... like computer-generated landscapes, that changed with the music... simple patterns for the quiet parts, and wild and crazy patterns for the noisy parts (all in 3D, colored lines against a black background).
I thought the video was really excellent, but i hated the music (i watched it on the warp site before i had ever heard anything from the squarepusher).
But my computer at home is pretty crappy... it does internet and microsoft word... and that's pretty much it. I watched that video over at my academy a few months back. I doubt i could get it to play here.

I doesn't sound much more extreme than most of the other tracks. Altough there are some crazy moments in there ;-) But still... i quite liked it just then (have been listening to it behind the computer over headphones... sounds much better).
I do think "my sound" from music is rotted is better though :-)

"my fucking sound" is mixed absolutely amazingly with Boards of Canada's
"AMO BISHOP RODEN" at Warpradio's DJ MIX1, the purple one. For all those who found it a difficult track to like, you will love it after this. The whole mix is AMAZING and GO PLASTIC is INCREDIBLE.
- the summation of all garage tunes in "my red hoty car" - the forward pulsating melody and drums of 'i wish..." - the journey of emotion on "exploding ..." ..and everything else beside. SP, he just never stops the energy

LOL!
That's classic steamtank ;-) I remember a Go Plastic review in OOR which started with: "everybody run! The squarepusher is back"... and later on: "Putting on Squarepusher is still a great way to scare unwanted guests away from your house" ;-)
But it really IS growing on me. Last night as i was listening to it again, i suddenly recognized an actual melody in the insane part of Exploding Psychology. At first it was mostly obscured by all the crazy beats, but later on it becomes clearer. This really sweet little melody, played at a really high pitch... 't was great :-) I loved it!
I still think My Fucking Sound is quite good also... especially the first couple of minutes. But the last cd i played last night was "music is rotted one note"... and i fell asleep during the grand finale of "my sound"... i can't believe how great that song is! One of his best :-)
