what happened to Orbital?

Is it just me or are their last 2 albums shit?

Im a huge orbital fan and I just got THE ALTOGETHER and the
other band new one and I think theyre really bad. The old
stuff was so kick ass up thru middle of nowhere.

Yeah I once considered them to be an essential listen. Now
I don't even pay attention.

Orbital II and In Sides are classic. Just focus on the
positive and you'll be okay.

Best Album was Insides.... then Orbital II.... then MON
(No-one seems to like this one... ?)

What's the new one then? Works? Coz that's just old/new
unreleased and single stuff......?

Halycon/On and On or whatever it's called is really great,
especially the pretty part before the beats come in. It's
beautiful. That's about the only Orbital I really like.

I must say im not thrilled with "THE ALTOGETHER".But they
have written some brilliant stuff.

"FOREVER","LUSH","IMPACT","THE GIRL WITH THE SUN IN HER
HEAD","BELFAST" among some of my faves.

So hopefully they will write some more brilliant stuff.I
still think they are great for what they have done.Who
knows?May be we will see a comeback or something. :-)

Asche, I don't understand. You didn't like the Best Of but
you liked all the other albums?

The Altogether is undeniably their worst but I thought
Meltdown, at least, was sweet.

if orbital would have continued their style for another 2
albums the critics and music scene would cuss them down,
they had to change to stay different and give something new.
who know,s it could have been a breath of fresh air, but it
wasnt. meh

snivilisation's great, though my version (are there
different versions??) has the mix of "sad but new" that I
DON'T like - how do I get the other one (without the
obnoxious gurgling sound)?

oh and In Sides is wonderful, gorgeous, beautiful,
excellent. especially "The Girl With The Sun In Her Head"
(brings me to tears most of the time I hear it) and
"Adnan's" (reminds me that things are going to be OK.)

First off, MoN was not a bad album by any reguards, and 2nd
off The Alltogether wasn't completely bad because of disc 2.
Your telling me you didn't like the songs of Disc 2?

The reason why you probaly don't like their recent stuff is
because the fact that they move on after every album.
Meaning they change their sound every time. That's what's
so great with Orbital. They can change their style so many
different times and yet still make it sound good.

Though, I wish just once they'd go back and revist there
In-Sides sound, but that will probaly never happen.

Which is fine I suppose, because who knows where they'll go
next.

i'm with you guys, loved the first 5 albums (and ep's) and
HATED the altogether. i really do not understand what
happened, though i thought MON was a dip in quality from in
sides.

on an unrelated note, how different is the UK version of the
debut album from the US version? i know it has the original
speedfreak, what else?

I just have 4 lps:

green ............................ 9.5
brown ............................ 10
in the middle of nowhere.... 8
the altogether .................. 7 (this one is clearly the
worst, but is not that bad... i mean it has some funny
stuff)

i love MON
what is wrong with you people

altogether was disappointing for the fact that it had no
flow between the tracks like the other albums

snivilisation is my least fav

MON was pretty lame and the Altogether was truly awful. I
can appreciate them wanting to evolve rather than reproduce
ten Chimes/Halcyons etc but their output now just sounds
dated compared to what's coming out these days. Their stuff
just sounds messy with too much going on. The beauty of
older tracks like Halcyon etc is their
simplicity/minimalism. I hope they return to form some day
as I truly loved them.

MON is beautiful, and I think they were pointed in the right
direction on that one.

The Altogether is really the only shitty album. They've let
punk rock spew all over it, hired David Grey to sing a
really gay song [ no offense to homosexuals ;) ], and Waving
not Drowning is absolutely disgusting.

Even when I try to like it I don't.
