The ventolin remixes

Ross from Canada on 2001-03-24 01:30 [#00001409]

what do you guys think of the ventolin remixes? a guy i met
who saw i had an aphex twin cd ("Other people listen to this
shit!?") made me a mix awhile ago, and he put a lot of the
ventolin remixes on it..I personally feel some of them are
downright unlistenable, like i can listen to them, but
there's nothing redeeming about them..PS. sorry for doing so
many topics, i just wanted to know how people felt about
these remixes

Torley Wong from Vernon, BC, Canada / WWW.TORLEY.COM on 2001-03-24 02:03 [#00001414]

my humble, personal thoughts + feelings, Ross, are the
following:

-i'm glad you're not afraid to voice your opinion about what
you *don't* like about Aphex
-that being said, i don't like the original "Ventolin" very
much at all, it's very hard on my ears, and at loud volumes,
unquestionably damaging to your hearing with that
high-pitched whine. so i don't encourage it!
-as for most of the "Ventolin" remixes... i find a lot of
them have neat snippets of ideas and the certain melodic,
harmony, or rhythmic allusions to other Aphex tracks, but
for the most part, they don't stand up to me as cohesive
pieces. or, as de facto remixes but i appreciate the
creativity.
-the Cylob remix is alright but not one of my favorites
among the works of Chris Jeffs (who i generally consider to
be "da man"!)
-i haven't listened to them in a long time so maybe my
opinions will change on the next spin... but this is what i
recall, anyway.
-and no, i don't like "73 Yips" either but "On" is really
cool :o)

i love the original ventolin for its twangs and metal bangs.
i enjoy the remixes off the 51/13 singles collection, but
they sound nothing like the original. that's often how it is
with techno remixes though. have you heard chemical brothers
remix of prodigies voodoo people? sounds nothing like the
original.

"twangs and metal bangs" -- now there's a catchphrase.

With all the laughing that is littered throughout half the
Ventolin remixes, and the fact that hardly any of them
actually sound like the original ventolin (except for the
"wheeze" mix) makes me think that it might of been a joke,
(RDJ might be thinking that marketing a remix of a "popular"
song will get the people who only listen to the "popular
songs" to think he's crap, It might just be his way of
staying out of the mainstream market) but as for the Probus
Mix, Wheeze Mix (the only true ventolin remix) and Plain and
gwaary mix (without the laughing)I think they are good, and
maybe the fact that he put next to no thoughts into the name
further conclude my theory (did I say that right?) but still
I think that the majority of them are jokes

the ventolin remixes was my first afx stuff....it has 11 or
12 remixes for just $5.99 or so.................ki took it
out to my car opened it up (about 4 or 5 years ago) adn
there was no cd.......i took it back in and they gave me the
last copy....ventolin is a nasty song....much respect going
out to my skateboard...

Ross from Canada on 2001-03-24 20:49 [#00001439]

good theory about getting people to not buy his work, it
might just be a joke...I love the song On, of course..has
anyone heard the i believe u-ziq remix of that, its really
tribal and builds up slowly, its insane!

The Cylob mix is fucking brilliant. You obviously have no
clue what you are talking about. It is the best mix on
there. You have 1 day to respond to this post to disagree
with me otherwise I will assume that you are either:

a) In total agreement with me

b) Dead

Peez.

It is the best one on there, it is fucking brilliant, it is
true.

It's sad how we are often forced to right the wrongs that
were once committed on the board.

might of been a joke

Now that's just an injustice in itself right there. HAVE
does not equal OF.

Fuck.

It´s a collection of tracks, "remixes" isn´t the right
word, not those made by afx anyway (except the wheeze mix) I
like the crowsmengegus mix best - one of the best tracks RDJ
has written - so funky and danceable! :D

It looks like a CD of remixes to me.

Probus is good, and the Cylob mix is mental.

But it's the Wheeze Mix that is my favorite product ever to
bear the Ventolin name.

Oh, yes it looks like it. But Obviously most tracks could
have been done anytime - just the titling says it´s an
actual "remix" - in most cases it´s just a track made
before or after ventolin but no remix... (I think)

(maybe I´m old fashioned, but I think a remix shuld have at
least one little detail in it who could be traced back to
the original, most ventolinversions don´t, they´re just a
bunch of tracks)

Maybe you're thinking of the Ventolin e.p. There is also a
Ventolin (the remixes) e.p.

one of the high moments in rdj career

I´m meaning both e.p´s - I bought them both back in 95, I
like most of the tracks, but the word "remix" doesn´t fit
in for a lot of the tracks, I think...
