2The silence on his group's album clearly sounds uncannily
like 4'33", the silence composed by Cage in his prime" LOL

did Cage acctually record it? or just perform it...

and if it is recorded... is it a recording of him being
silent.. or is it digital silence...

i belive boc is digital silence... which would not be an
infringement of copyright

imo

Umm, actually, it would be in breach of copyright either
way- copyright applies to the "notes" of a piece as well as
actual "performance" recordings.

Mind you, no court (even in the US) would prosecute even if
cage took BoC to court :)

I think Cages rolling over in his grave over this...GREEDY
ass publicist, they must be joking!

yea this is shitty. i wonder why BOC and soulfly (new album
has a minute of silence for 9/11 victims) aren't also being
prosecuted.

Zeus: Actually, Cages 4'33'' was intended as an expression
of how complete silence is not achievable: the famous David
Tudor's performance of this piece in Yellowstone National
Park demonstrated how every silence actually is different.
The piece has three parts and Tudor had to differentiate
between them by lifting and putting back the piano keyboard
lid. Various sounds (birds singing, rain...) penetrated the
silence. No silence is the same, should be the message I
guess.

exactly, tho that's what i thought Zeus was getting at with
his comment "him being silent" vs. "digital silence"

yeah... cause like... Cages whole philosophy was that
everything is music... and by him being silent for 4:33, he
was showing all the sounds around you that is music.

But with BoC, the digital silence is supposed to be complete
silence... not even a recording of silence... just blank
audio data.

by the way... my teacher told me that Cage was invited to
this chamber that was supposedly 100% sound proof. And he
went in, and came out alittle later, and was upset...
because he could hear high pitched humming and a low
rumbling. The scientists said that what he was hearing was
the electricity from his brain, and his heart... when its
completly silent... you can hear it apparently.

I think Cage just fell asleep from his mad-boring pieces,
while BoC ran out of Leslie Nielsen tapes to sample.

"yeah... cause like... Cages whole philosophy was that

well i think boc's intention's were similar to cage's...
hence the name "magic window" window trough wich you
appreciate the sounds around you.

Silence is unobtainable. John Cage himself, in research,
went into a total silence chamber at some university. As he
was inside, he reported two sounds...one high..and one low.
one being his heart..and the other sound being his nervous
system. our bodies make sounds...theres no such thing has
silence unless we are deaf...but even then i have to wonder
if they might hear vibrations?

I think John Cage's 4'33" is a masterpiece in its own right.
Its one of the coolest things ever to happen. I would love
to see it preformed.

i think the guy is sued not for stealing cages' idea, but
because he is calling ita song by batt/cage, claiming cage
had a part in it.
