TOOL electronica

do you think tool could make a really good electronic
album? radiohead did it seemingly out of nowhere, but like
radiohead, tool have actually been experimenting in samples
and electronic fx for years. it's undeniable the members of
tool are incredibly talented musicians, like radiohead. adam
jones is a master at fx pedals, listen to his guitar in
"third eye" and many other songs. danny carrey is an
incredibly unique drummer with a knack for bizarre time
signatures that i'm sure could do some serious damage in the
electronic world. maynard listens to lots of electronic
groups and just good music in general. and their bassist
justin chancelor has a style that brings the bassline to the
forefront of the songs. i think if they felt like doing it
they could make a masterpiece of an electronic album, what
do you think?

who knows! considering maynard's love of massive attack and
justin's deep and heavy bass playing, i'd suspect something
like the album 'mezzanine' but with more complex drums (like
in really dark idm).

I hope they do go in that direction because I don't know
what's left for them to accomplish in the rock genre. Maybe
that's a bit of an overstatement but I agree with you and I
think they could do some great stuff in electronic music.

those beats in 'die eier von satan' are fairly hard
sounding.. if only they developed it into a proper song..

argh! why does everyone have lightsabers in their
images?!?!? am i missing something?

The lightsabers all started from Jedi Chris, so blame him
:)

I just think it looks cool and I like Star Wars.

i wouldn't want them to stop doing rock, they're my favorite
"rock band", but if they did both (like radiohead) or just
did one electronica album i think with their musical talent
and creativity it could be phenomenal.

I think they probably should experiment SOMEHOW... Lateralus
has a lot of stale moments, I find... hell, I can barely
remember how the songs go, they're so dynamic, but yet, ALL
share the same basic traits. They move so much, but really
go nowhere... big guitar riff followed by another big guitar
riff, so many shoved into one track. I'd be hardpressed to
tell the difference between some similar sounding movements
in the Grudge and Schism. Lacks the direction Aenima had,
methinks. Still really good... but they need to try
something new.

I agree with you Ophecks, Lateralus is good and bad both at
once.

And yeah, I'd like to hear what Tool could do with a more
electronica-type album. I think it'd be pretty cool.

yeah i think tool could be up to it. reflection off
lateralus is very electronica sounding and one of the most
interesting songs on the album.

it'd have to be a combo of electronica and guitars, though.
i wouldn't want to miss their unique guitar sound
