The Sierra Club is going to be responsible for even more deaths of our our national forest service firefighters. For fucks sake their endless litigation of efficent and neccessary forest cleaning has already caused some of the worst fires in the West Coast's history, and this shit is just going to get worse. Fucking hate those tools, ruining our environment one lawsuit at a time :-( |

Fucking environmentalists. They tell us to "save the trees". And then they go chop down a whole shit load of them to make flyers that tell you about their next meeting. Then the fliers blow everywhere and litter the place. I say we throw the stupid environmentalists in the fire, and watch them burn. It seems harsh, but its doing more help than harm. |

Loogie- On the West Coast of the US we have lots of national forest. Huge areas of gigantic old trees. Part of nature is to have fires burn down parts of a forest, it's healthy. Creates new life, gets rid of all the dead growth, and is part of the nature cycle. With humans more and more in these forests, we can't let them burn, they won't let them log any trees, so what MUST be done to keep the forest healthy is clearing the underbrush. What a fire normally must do, burn out the small trees, burn the fallen trees, we must do. Otherwise you set up a huge fuel supply just waiting to burn. What the Sierra Club does is prevents companies from comming in and harvesting the already fallen trees. They say it hurts the environment. So all this brush piles up that the Sierra Club blocks the clearing of with lawsuits. Their lawyers get rich and stop the forests from being cleaned out. A normal 150 year old pine tree is hard to light on fire, but if you light the brush under it that naturally shouldn't be there, then the whole canopy goes. We are having the worst fires in Colorado, California and Arizona. Why? The "environmentalists" are getting paychecks from their litigation, and our fire fighters are battling the worst shit nature can throw at them. The Sierra Club roles in their dough as our boys die. They have stopped the natural proccess with endless lawsuits, and more people are going to die while they get fat with our money. One lawsuit at a time....our enviornment is dying |

I was watching CNN, and even they were reporting that many of these fires are being caused by fucking environmentalists blocking the neccesary clearing of some of our forests. Fires continue to burn at an alarming rate. Fuck the Sierra Club. |

here's somthing that caught my eye in a recent edition of the "U.S. news" mag. last week or so, they had a snippit article that explained that seal skins are a big problem in canada. Over 80,000 skins were exported from the country. The graphic acompaning the article was too guesome. It actually showed a clubbing, while a HUGE boatload of skins floated by in the background. I know in america we have laws that make this illegal, which is what the article was based on, but i'm sure we too have our poachers. So, to re-sumarize my point: Do you canadians think this is a problem? are there any enviromental organizations tring to get legislature passed? What are your personal opinions? |

sierra made leisure suit larry, that makes them cool. but i digress. i must admit, i hate the sierra club too, but for selfish reasons. i worked for a different environmental group, one which does a whole lot more important and dignified things and yet receives a fraction of the credit. essentially, sierra club just hold press conferences and do publicity things while PIRG actually gets environmental laws changed and enforced (PIRG also upholds consumer rights and fights for people's health, as you'll find out at pirg.org). so it just pisses me off when people talk highly of and/or contribute to sierra club when PIRG is doing all the work. |

I'll be honest, I never knew about this method of cleaning forests or the Sierra Club. But I already hated the type of liberal people that would be affiliated to the club. Crap like this is making our country look like a bunch of panzies. I will now educate people that i know about this. Thank you BlatantEcho. |

My thesis was effectivly that the Sierra Club is one of the ultimate culprits responsible for the tremendously destructive and deadly fires the west coast is suffering. You claimed the thread was ignorant. Cited no evidence. because since the beginning you've ignored other factors that are more to blame, such as the government's pro-logging and mining industry stances/(lack of) regulations and the tactics used by loggers that got us into this mess to begin with. although sierra club aren't blameless, they wouldn't have done what they did if it weren't for far more serious problems such as very weak forest protection (which is desperately needed, as you'd understand if you went to the PIRG site). |

I visted the PIRG site, and browsed my home state's specfic site a bunch. If we had such a pro logging government, there wouldn't be trees to burn. Responsible logging and small scale burning, even in our National Forrests, is the only way to prevent more impossible fire storms such as we are seeing now. Of course, non of this can happen with the lawyers of the Sierra Club keeping anyone interested in natural forrest managment at bay. |

wouldn't be trees to burn!!!!! like trees don't ever grow!! haha! there's a difference between pristine wilderness and tree farms. we have very little pristine wilderness left because of logging and weak regulation. i'm not opposed to logging, just it needs to be better regulated. i suggest you familiarize yourself better with logging practices and exactly WHAT groups like PIRG and sierra club are battling for. |

If we were so, there wouldn't be the fuel that is currently burning away on the west coast. You laughed at me and pointed out that trees do in fact grow...... With that titsworth, and with all due respect, I will not continue a dialouge as I do not believe you will continue in a socratic or charitble manner. Both are imperative if anything is to be reasoned from our words. I can't speak for PIRG, and I have made no claims abut them, i simply don't know enough to make any educated statments. For clarification, on the outside, the Sierra Club is for protection of the environment. Also on the outside, our country is figting a war on terrorism. I feel that extremists in any form are harmful, and in this case, the extreme environmentalists are very much responsible for the enourmous fires that are sweeping our country. Their attitued is not a logial one, nor will they faciliate a plan or dialouge that will result in pro active measures to be implemented to protect our forests and our people around them. |

sierra club are far from extreme environmentalists (like green peace). anyway, it's fine you don't want to continue cos you don't know your environmentalist facts which makes the whole discussion moot anyway. some of what you say i agree with (some environmentalist groups aren't rational or willing to make compromises), and some of it just baffles me with its misinformation. it just seems like anti-environmentalist propoganda, something right wing nuts would spread (without caring to know the truth on the matter). |
