than "how tall are you", don't be a Sulkmaster.

the shining is a great movie. i hope someday aphex's remixes

i loved the movie so much i own the DVD......no special
features tho.

the bartender FREAKED me out major.....dunno....he and that
waiter guy in the bathroom were just CREEPY....and of course
the slow madness you see happening to Jack.....he's so damn
good. the book is really good as well.

trivia question....does anyone know where it was filmed? the
exterior....i'm curious what hotel it really is. i went to
one in colorado that said it was the Shining hotel....but it
looks nothing like it.....anyone know???

i wanna be trapped inside that movie, no doubt. my VHS copy
has a little documentary filmed by one of kubrick's brats --
pretty cool behind-the-scenes footage. the black dude is
scatman crothers btw.... in the book he lives if i remember
correctly and they all go off to live in florida happily
ever after -- *puke puke*

Yeah that is a strange and very creapy scene.
I have no idea if it has any meaning or symbolism , but i
learned when took "movie history" classes in school that
when most good directors make movies almost any thing you
see has a inner meaning/story , all the colours and settings
and camera views tell you something.

I don't remember , is it Jack or his wife who see this ?

And I don't think much of this one

a Stephen King fan huh? I haven't read The Shinning, but the
movie is great... not really scary to me, but very
entertaining and strange... I've read a few Stephen King
books, and It is my favorite... great characters in that
book, and a great story!!

The Shining is good, so are IT and many other books and

i've read most SK books, but i'm not really a fan - most of
it is longwinded and shit and self-conscious (he was put
down in his English Major Class for writing popular trash)

i prefer his earlier books, and some of his more recent
works such as Hearts In Atlantis and Insomnia -- i did,
however, love Needful Things and Salems Lot

"I'm not gonna hurt ya. Wendy, darling. Light of my life.
I'm not gonna hurt ya. You didn't let me finish my sentence.
I said, I'm not gonna hurt ya. I'm just gonna bash your
brains in. I'm gonna bash em right the fuck in!

Great movie, still scares the shit out of me when I attempt
to watch it alone. The last time I did the phone rang, I was
terrified almost to the point of paralysis, I didn't dare
get up to answer the phone.

If anyone wants a text version of the book, send me an AIM.

really steve? the shining didn't really scare me that much.
i'm not really scared of those type of horror movies. i'm
terrified of horror films like silence of the lambs and shit
like that. it's wierd. maybe it's because i know that
something like the shining could never really happen but
something like silence of the lambs prolly could happen and
there prolly was a serial killer out there who
skinned his victims.

offline titsworth from Washington, DC (United States) on 2002-06-22 00:47 [#00279437]
Points: 14550 Status: Lurker

it's a tensive type of scary, very intellectual "horror"
film. silence of the lambs is like that too. i guess the
shining is more "abstract" which adds to its artistic appeal
but makes it less scary. and what do you mean the shining
couldn't happen? strip it to its essentials it's just man's
descent into madness. happens much more often than
cannibalism.

who says it can't happen? haven't you heard of cabin fever?
even without the supernatural element, that shit can easily
happen -- after all, taking the horror into "normal society"
is meant to be stephen kings, ummm, forte

yeah insanity does happen a whole lot more but do you really
think that there's a haunted hotel out there where little
girls try to suduce you to play with them or they're are
ghosts that run around and have partys?

of course cabin fever can happen i never said it has
happened but what i was focusing on when i said the shining
couldn't happen was all of the supernatural stuff.

the movie is such a good movie because it slowly shows Jack
Torrence suffering the different stages of a mental
breakdown, it's just fun to watch a guys sanity get broken
enough until he goes bezerk and trys to kill his family.
