Personally, I think the dvd was a let down.. I never had a chance to see them on the Fragility tour and was expecting something more akin to the live performances on Closure. To me it seemed more rock'n'roll than fine art.. Everything felt too glossy. I really like 'still' though, especially 'all that could have been' and 'leaving hope'. I hope it's indicative of the direction he's taking his music in now - the emotions seem a little more mature.. It's kind of awkward watching a 40 year old prowl back and forth on the stage like a panther while singing 'head like a hole'. I don't know, it just came off as really insincere to me. I'm sure most people will disagree..

I'd like to see him cast off the restraints of nine inch nails and approach things solely as Trent Reznor. I think he's a brilliant musician with a profound ability to manipulate atmosphere.. Some of the dynamics and subtle shifts in his music are literally breathtaking. I honestly can't think of any other artist that compares with him in way of musical genius(and I use the term very sparingly)...

Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, even John Lennon... All brilliant renaissance men in their own right but none of them hold a candle to Trent Reznor in terms of musical genius.
..Just my own opinion of course.

there's a couple of projects from trent. tapeworm has been in the works for a while. it's supposed to be trent, charlie clouser, page hamilton, maynard james keenan, phil anselmo and a few more nin members.
also, look up Lucky Pierre for old stuff.

I'm not too excited about Tapeworm... I like his music most when it's HIS music -not when it's created through a democratic process.

he's not 40, he's 37, but point taken. the first new nin music you'll probably hear is the music (and sound fx) to the new computer game doom 3. that should be first or second quarter 2003. who knows if any nin or tapeworm will come out before then.

Yes, I can't wait to hear the score for Doom III. Did you happen to hear the interview with him and and John Carmack?

i liked the DVD.....however....it does not really give the feel of the LIVE performance in my opinion. i went to 9 shows during the fragility tour (the SAN FRANCISCO show was the BEST) and it just didn't give me the same vibe...or even close to it. so in a way it was a disappointment......but thats a TALL order to fill.
titsworth's track is VERY cool....i recommend a download and a listen in a DARK roooom.
*cue scary music* =0)

i totally agree. the quake soundtrack is trent's SAW2, it's very listenable on its own. the doom3 music is going to be so amazing in 5.1 surround. the last interview i read said his score literally rocked the theater where doom 3 was previewed.

Re : Trent's SAW2 That's exactly how I've always thought of it. I used to listen to the Quake soundtrack all the time.... Harrowing! Especially that first track. I love it when his songs start out violent and intense and then suddenly drop off i.e. Perfect Drug, Driver Down, and several others I can't think of right now.

as much as i love nin i'd love more if he just dropped some of the things he feels like he's obligated to do with it (ie: depressed lyrics, simple vocabulary, sulking, hard rock riffs) and release a completely honest album. i think his most sincere releases since becoming famous have been still and the quake soundtrack. i think he feels very frustrated by the formula he's built himself and i hope he decides to BREAK that formula instead of sacrificing his musical brilliance to appeal to his fanbase. he sounds really into his new album, which doesn't sound like 'still' at all but instead "violent, minimalist synth-bass techno" which might be very good. it all depends on how it's executed.

actually I believe trent said his next release will be much more stripped down and brutal and be more similar to his older work.
