do you have a sealed copy of HAB1?

Yes!

When it came out the shop still hadn't broken the seal to
play it. I asked them to leave it sealed and bought it on
the spot. I lived down in Exeter (home of Rabbit city
records) at the time, the guys there were all into AFX as a
local hero. It was ther that I got the bug.
Rabbit city changed its name several times but there is
still a record shop owned by the same people.

more days to go....wow...
Ihave them both on original vinyl, but by the time I bought

its certainly on my wishlist let me tell ya!

do you think the imposible is possible of a re-release??? i
dont really understand all the out of print situations.

does it mean that the original or master DATs or whatever
are long gone and it cant be reproduced or what?

I'm suprised the bootleggers haven't jumped on this yet....

nice profits to be had if you invested in pressing up 1000
HABs...shouldn't be hard to get exactly right and thru,
ebay, no-ones gonna know...

I know one guy on ebay who's selling a rare AFX release
that's probably fake...basically because he sells the same
thing over n over and always gets good money for it (ie
~$100)...

Worth doing at that amount of profit...I'm almost tempted
myself...

Nope my dear friend, but still,it's the artists decision to
re-release some old material or not...Remember Rdj has every
material, everything he recorded in his hands, but sometimes
the artist just don't want because might be just not
cost-effective in some way......

does he do the "This is my last copy" thing with ya ?

and then... surprise, he's back with another.

that era that he could chuck on....
more HAB type tracks?!!!! *GASP*

quernstone: I am and proud!!! Loud and proud that is.

Jand: hehehe, this links to the other main topic of these
last two days. When actual physical formats of music become
expensive objects of desire, you know it's time for a
revolution (or at least a bit of a subversive action).

Does AFX own his own masters?...that's the question...very
very few artists do...

princo: yeah...I bid on it one time and came second; he then
emailed me and said he's got another copy...and he's on
there all the time with the same thing...

I'm not gonna point out who it is but it's fairly easy to
work out...

If you don't own the master then the master owns you: Chuck

Well Jand as a matter of fact I think he does, there are lots
of artists that legally own their masters or even the
rights, after all,it's his compositions and he's not going to
allow a "cunt producer" to mess up with his
creation,nope,that's just not him........................

think or know?...big difference

You'd be surpised how few artists do...you have to be
someone of considerable standing to get a contract that lets
you control your own...

Even Paul Mc doesn't own the Beatles songs anymore...

Well Jand,I know so,even though,PaulMcartney is just another
story...His producer, while they were shit got them to sign a
contract leaving all the songwriting to GMartin, including
profits, but the record label owning all of the masters and
music they produce...But now artists know what they do,if
its convenient, they'll do it if it isn't they will spit on
your face.....

Yep,you're right...You can ask anyone at Rephlex/Warp if RDJ
owns all of his recordings and you will see,it might
surprise you...He does legally owns the right to all of his
compositions..:)

He doesn't own anything he did on R&S, that much is
obvious...he didn't want them to release Classics but
nothing he could do...

I guess his deal with WARP is far better...but he's in the
minority if that is true; anyone signed to a major label
wouldn't have rights to their masters...

It is the same in printing. The physical masters belong to
the printer/publisher.

There's obviously a big difference betweem Aphex and the
likes of the Beatles. I'd imagine that very little, if any,
of Aphex' stuff is studio-made (at least by someone other
than himself) - correct me if I'm wrong - as he's often
talked about sending off finished tracks/remixes on dat. So
he's almost certain to *have* the original master
files/recordings of his own work.
Whether he owns the copyrights for them is a different
matter. On the back of every release it says (c) xxx
Records, so I guess the rights are owned by the labels not
the artist. In this case.
