oh cay, I've wondered about this for a long time...

do artists make DIRECT profit from the sales of singles?

I was told by someone that singles are chosen by the
labels/record companies and only act as promotions towards
the album from which they come. Plus, the labels get any
profit that is made from these singles.

Can anyone shed any light on this subject?

If you are paying two pounds plus the artists are making
money anything cheaper is promotional and the artist gets
zip.

There was a ruling a couple of years ago that there could
only be three tracks on a single cd or it wouldn't be
considered for the uk charts.
