......and his Magical Band

the album...
"Trout Mask Replica"
.....is AMAZING!

a must-listen for those interested in experimental, 'avant
garde', innovative, INTERESTING music thats DEFINITELY not
normal!

its mostly traditional instruments (not electronic......
guitar, drums, bass, some winds) played very
untraditionally

the different instruments will be playing in different time
signatures SIMOTANIOUSLY!
and they dont have the constraints of key signatures....
making it sound very very free.....and very hectic/chaotic
on the first listens.....

just like Autechre will sound on the first listen to someone
used to techno..... "its just noise!"
but no..... its intricately made music!

compared to rock..... its like Autechre's Confield compared
to normal electronica!

i HIGHLY recommend it for those who like old ROCK
(ya, that means you ophecks)

copied it from a school library disc on my teacher's (who is
a huge music freak) advice.....
i'd like to put it up as mp3s on soulseek for those who are
interested but i dont ahve a program that can rip audio
cds!
any suggestions!?

PS: it also has cool weird poetic lyrics that are sort of
sometimes sung

sorry.... i meant: simultaneously

im a very bad speller.... obviously

but anyways, to sum things up:

Trout Mask Replica-->rock/jazz
=
Confield-->eletronica

I love that stuff, man!

Inevitable quote: "A squid eating dough in a polyethylene
bag is fast and bulbous. Got me?"

I've been meaning to get into Beefheart, I have a Guitar
World magazine focusing on 1969's best albums, that was one
of the ones listed.

I have no hard drive space and I don't want to delete
anything. Sigh. But maybe this week.

Apparently he had this mad Uncle who would show him his
testicles and say "What do you think of that for a beef
heart!"

SICK

I've heard SOME Beefheart, and it's good... kind of like
Zappa, isn't he? Weirdo... I liked it, and I've been meaning
to get into it.

But, nah, The Beach Boys are unbeachable.

Get it, unbeachable?!?! AHAHAHAHAAHA!

AHA!!!

You know, unBEATable... unBEACHable? Heh.

those days)

Yes, 'Trout Mask Replica' is an amazing record.. Very jazzy
and surreal, almost borders on krautrock at times. Too bad
'Bat Chain Puller' never saw a proper release. A lot of
current musicians list Captain Beefheart as a major
influence(Meat Beat Manifesto, Acid Mothers Temple, Nurse
With Wound, Squarepusher, Coil, Julian Cope,..) I also
remember John Lennon(The) speaking favorably of him in
several old interviews. He had Safe as Milk stickers
slapped all over his equipment..
....
Does anyone know the physical status of Don van Vliet? Last
I heard he wasn't doing too well..

I'm listening Trout Mask Replica right now... I can NOT stop
laughing... this is the most demented thing I have EVER
heard... :-)

I also downloaded Queen's ''A Night at the Opera'' and
Tool's ''Undertow'', so it was a productive first night back
on Soulseek.

I heard that the name originated when his uncle squeezed his
penis until the head became very swollen and purple like a
big ol' beef heart.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM LIKE NO OTHER

Anyone who's into trout mask replica, check out the nlf3
trio. Not quite as demented or free-jazz, more post-rock but
with a kinda similar intricate/improv vibe.

I DON'T WANNA KILL... MY CHINA PIG

the 67-70 period in general was a huge influence on Autechre
in my opinion - 'Trout mask..', 'lick my decals off' and
'Mirror Man' in particular.

then they lost their way during the mid seventies, but then
there was a return to form with the last three albums; 'Bat
Chin Puller' (bootleg version's better), 'Doc at the radar
station' and 'Ice Cream for Crow'.

essential stuff.
