ok, I go to music school. A comteporary one... we learn
everything from classical to jazz, to rock to soul, even
electronic if we are in the synth major...

anyways

we had an assignment... we had to bring in a peice of music
and discuss it

most people at berklee are diehard jazz and stuff

so i decided to bring in bucaphlous bouncing ball (sp?)

needless to say, there was a look of horror and total
misunderstanding on thier faces. it was priceless.

i went on to explain how electronuic music is music too, and
etc etc

but i could tell, that not a soul in the class understood.

they just looked at my like a crazy man

hehehehe

poor bastards

fuck...you'd think people at a contempory music school would
have open enough minds & ears to be able to cope with
AFX...even out-there stuff like BBB...

Good job you didn't play em any Confield...;)..they probably
would have tried to kill you...

now hold on... they arnt classically trained... but they can
be snobbish about the jazz

there are people who are into it though

and im always trying to show it to people who never heard of
it

there is a synth major (im in) and everyone in it is into
electronic music

well, given, they usually are open... to some extent... and
i have turned some people on to it...

but alot of these people grow up playing guitar or piano or
whatever... to them its kind of an insult to not have people
playing

i can understand it....

but they should loosen up

i grew up playing classical cello for quite a few
years...and love electronic...i think it's the best genre of
all time.

also, pianists should get electronic. To be a virtuoso is
the same as losing your soul to the instrument. Especially
to the piano. It's very hard to play works the require
extinsive technique with passion. The same cold,
maticulosness is present in many electronic arts.

http://howisya.tripod.com/radio/

it's a real college radio station broadcasting to a town of
20,000 people and a few miles outside of town. you can
listen to it on the internet through warpradio.com
go to the site linked above for my playlists from this past
school year :) [note: it is NOT any one genre]

well,

thats my big problem with jazz

the whole thing where you play the melody, then everyone
takes turns soloing
and they do all these complex solos

just way too much

minimalizm man

i like electronic music because it has no boundries

you can have stylistic influences of any type... or just do
somethin totally unheard

and stuff

but im tired, so im goin to bed,

that's funny about your music class Zeus, I know that if I
ever want anyone to keep away from my computer (if all of a
sudden everyone wants to check their email) I play -confield
preferably track 02 at the moment) and I soon have all the
space I need ... brilliant!!! damm that second track is
dark, (it's also good for listening to on minidisc whilst
walking along the beach at night,!!)

Jazz is cool tho.

I had a similar experience doing a little presentation of
electronic music for my high school class.
I did try to piss them of a bit. Started with some jean
michel jarre, wich they could cope, but when i played atari
teenage riot and bogdan raczynski loud, people thought i was
crazy. The cover and music for the last track i played made
them sure of it...

Windowlicker

Yeah there was this guy who had some sexual thing going on
(thought I would steal his girlfriend) so he brought only
the music that he and his dog liked to my party since I
asked them to bring something because I had nothing that
herd would like, so I like tried to compete with him and
played the bouncing ball song. Stupid fucks didn't even
realise that I was joking, and they were all glad since they
thought I "failed". I am glad I won't see them anymore.
