ive been thinkin about this alot...

its like 400 bucks... but it is like 40 gigs, or
something... and holds like 2000 gigs, and can be used as an
external hard drive

im really tempted... cause i got so many cds, and it would
be nice not to have to switch cds every few mins... or to
carry ALL my cds with me on trips...

but i dont know...

any one?

anyone have one?

I WANT ONE!!!!!!

But you are wrong on a couple of things:

They are in excess of $400+

They come in 5 or 10GB sizes, not 40GB.

The 5 GB holds 1,000 songs, and the 10GB holds 2,000 songs.

Or, atleast they are supposed too.

oh thanks for clearing that up

i know it was 2000 songs... just wasnt sure on the actual
storeage

really more then 400?

you sure?

it just seems so great.... but i wonder if they will make a
new one with like 20 gig memory... and if i should wait and
see....

Ill buy.

Assuming you have a Mac? And it only works on firewire,
sorry. Not USB.

Technology is great, but sometimes it can jump up and bite
you in the ass.

Yea, you should have 2 firewire ports on there somewhere.
Just plug the little bastard in and install the software.
Although it is supposed to work with iTunes, I would bet you
have to install some drivers first.

Both,

Usually they run Counter Strike and Team Fortress Classic
servers. But Im setting them up to be web servers.

I do various things on my 8600/300, aka my 300MHZ Mac, and I
do pretty much everything on my main computer.

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2002-06-14 06:29 [#00265747]
Points: 14042 Status: Lurker

sweet

so.... for servers... how does that work? do you ever touch
them? or jsut let them run all the time?

offline Ctrl Alt Del from Ft. Worth (United States) on 2002-06-14 06:31 [#00265750]
Points: 2190 Status: Lurker

well, you just set them up to do what you want then you let
them run unless you make constant changes to whatever they
are doing. (i.e. changing maps on a CS server, or updating a
website on a webserver)

yeah...I have dreams about Ipods/MP3 Players as well...

There's a nice new HD player just arrived from RIO...it's
20Gig and retails for £299 (I think, might be 399..)..
looks pretty smooth as well, matt black with a large LCS
screen...(a little similar to a GameBoyAdvance, I
guess...)...

I know how much I love my MP3CDPlayer and how it lets me
carry all my music with me easily....but this thing would be
even better; My whole Music collection in one little black
box....mmmmmmmm

Worth being patient for a little longer tho I reckon...give
it another yr and we should see the above sort of spec from
several different suppliers and a big drop in price; 20gig
for £199 I reckon is a good price point to look out
for...(How funky would a MP3HD player from Bang & Ollfson
be....)...

yeah it was £399 and not £299...

pity...

Argos are selling it in the UK...you can see a pic and read
a bit more info here....

Tech like this could turn a brother to crime...;)..

iPod is worth every penny. I've used a few and they just get
the job done, like Macs.

The only thing stopping me from buying one at the moment is
that there's no line-in so you can't connect a microphone or
do a direct recording.

But I've seen it take just over 9 mins to fill-up the 5GB
HD, now that's FAST!

does anybody know what a smartmedia-slot for mac costs?
that´s one of the first things i´ll need, to connect my
sampler ...
