Virtual dub would not be good enough. I need something more flexible. A name of the program would be good enough (I don't care what it is or how much it costs, I will find it somewhere)

you could try getting your hands on 'adobe premier' depends what you want to do with it really.

Take video clips, put them together (maybe do some effects) and insert music. This is possible to be done with Vdub but it is quite messy.

yeah, get adobe premiere or even better: ulead media studio..
but it's a matter of taste...

there is also a nice program by honestech at honestech.com
you can download a demo. it's small, but very handy. you can put together clips with it.
