Local Grassy Hill Highschool student, Edward Rolden
reported last thursday his hightened sense of knowledge of
mathematics and biology due do his listening of 'Intelligent
dance music' or IDM prior to his final exams.

"I was sitting outside on the stairs listening to some Plaid
on my walkman when all of a sudden a great understanding of
physics came upon me," remembers Rolden, age 17. "Some girl
asked me what I was listening to but I just gave her the
finger."

"It's true," Lisa Howlesworth explains. "Before we had to
send in a special teacher for him to go one on one so he
would get more attention. This was outside normal classes
so no one could bug him."

Rolden reports not only hightened physics understanding but
the human body as well.

"After I had finished with some Plaid I immediatly put in
some Aphex Twin...this Drukqs cd here. Suddenly I saw all
the diagrams I skipped in class and I knew everything. At
that point I knew I was going to pass. I listened to a
group called Autechre on my way to class."

Teachers aren't going to give up the search for what made
Rolden a grade A student in less than 10 minutes. Recent
research has begun.

"What we've done," states Howard Porabellini, "is we've
started to catalogue all the incidents where Edward's
capacity for information expanded and processed that to find
the exact thing which helps him do that. We've had the
meetings and we really don't believe his music is the key to
this. All it is is noise really...awful."

Rolden passed his two exams with A on both and plans to
attend a University as soon as possible.

When asked where he plans going he responded by saying, "I
don't care where the **** I go."

IDM has killed my grades... I spend too much time listening
to it, and it makes me want to do creative stuff... not
involving school.

i agree ophecks ;) .... but that sentence " ... we don´t
believe it´s the music ... all noise, awful ..." - very sad

i heard a good quote on the radio this morning by a german
musician (herbert grönemeyer if anybody cares - i don´t
like him) - he said everywhere especially in england the
people are, no matter which age open to music and respect
one being musician - in germany when you tell ´em that you
are musician, they ask: fine, but what job do you have? ...

that describes it very well for me ...

um, i dont think its a real story guys...

there have been many threads asking if IDM really is
intellegent, and if it makes you smarter...

he was being sarcastic...

school.
