I am not prepared, but my girlfriend told me we should give
up smoking the other day (we are a bit influenced cos her
sister has been found a cancer, not a very dangerous one
though) so since saturday I am not smoking, I dont know if I
will be able, but doing it with my girlfriend might make it
easier...
has any of you tried and managged to stop smoking?
have you got any recomendations?

A definite NO! I love to smoke and I can't imagine life
without it! But in my country it is now so expensive to
smoke that I will be without tobacco for the rest of this
week and I dont like it... I will be super stressed and
grumpy! A pouch of 50 grams of tobacco with 50 Rizla papers
now costs about 10£ here in Norway! The biggest health risk
related to smoking in my case is the fact that I cant afford
to eat very well since I smoke. How fucked up is that!?!?!?

I respect your choice of not smoking, though! I wish you
good luck! You'll need it... : )

It doesn't help that ciggies are so cheap in Espana.

my father was a heavy smoker for more than 20 years.
Recently he got some cheap tobacco from natives and after he
smoked a couple he felt so sick that he could not smoke
anymore.

Well, that is how he stopped.

I quit about a year ago. The biggest hurdles for me were
alcohol and coffee. Smoking goes very well with both, so I
quit drinking for about three weeks. After three weeks it's
easier to resist the temptation to smoke, but the sad part
is you'll always want one. Like I said, it's been a year for
me and I still get cravings. Good Luck!

just don't substitute the ciggies for food, or if you are
just eat fruit and vegatables.
the big thing is using your hands for something else when
usually you have a ciggie in it.

another way is to wear mittens

I hope you're not suggesting he take up masturbation there
Phiz. In public at least.

stopping smoking marijuana is also difficult

The best thing to do is to take up excercise. You already
have the hat so I would suggest swimming.

The thing with masturbation is that it hurts the kittens and
you get calluses on your palms.

well actually I started swimming now that the weather is
good and also play some football (european), so I am on my
way to become a fucking non smoker

I just quit a little while ago, its not easy..after doin it
for years. what influenced me is my dad is in the hospital
now with a messed up heart, due to smoking. i guess if thats
what it takes than so be it. what helps i've discovered is
doing active stuff, like going jogging. it's either jogging
or smoking, and i feel better after jogging so it works
out..

Okay here are a few tips I picked up over the years:

Remove beer from your diet. Drink fruity mix-drinks if you
have to drink. Gin-tonic is my personal choice.

Try to cut down on coffee and switch to tea, preferably
herbal. Tea and smokes just ain't the same. I am able to
deal with the occasional coffee.

Never say you're just going to have one tonight, this one
time. You'll be back on them in no time.

The cravings will NEVER completely go away. They will
decrease in intensity but that's about it. My step-father
quit for 9 years and is now back to being a smoker.

I still miss my Gauloise Reds

Good luck.

i quit last year after having smoked for 8 years (i started
when i was 14 and i smoked about 15 cigs a day; i don't
think this is soo much).
it is H E L L and it is not over yet. every single
day is a fight, tho i won every single one up to now. be
prepared for a long suffocation.
shit, i hope this will get easier soon...
i don't have recommendatiuons; after several unsuccessful
attempts i finally was prepared

the main thing is to not be around people who smoke, and
also to have people around who will yell at you if you start
smoking again, but they also have to be supportive of you
quitting.
