CDRW-discs cracking?!

have any of you ever experienced CDRW-discs getting cracks
in the center?
I had 4 CDRW-discs (3 from TDK and one from Smart Buy) that
cracked up from the middle and leaving the disc totally
useless. I could be a sideeffect of super-fast drives like
50X and up, that simply rips appart the cd.

Antipiracy? some people use cdrw's to store important
data... I think they'd be really pissed to lose this data...

I tend not to buy cheap CDRs, I allways prefer to buy SONY
if I can.

In work we had a big problem with disks that had cracks in
them, exploding in CD drives. It only applied to certain
computer's cdrom drives, but nevertheless scarey. The
problem isn't going to affect any of you guys, but makes
interesting reading anyway. The noise of the disk shattering
is like a gun, and sometimes the plastic is forced out
through the drive. HAve a look at this link...

I don't think anyone is going to go try the effort of
checking out what data you have on your cdrw's, junkie...
BTW, if you only have mp3 music and not kiddy porn, there
are no reasons to worry, anyway...

I always use cheapest cdr's (no name) and this Chris's story
really scared the shit outta me.

The cracks, I assume are made when you 'pop' them out of the
cd cases. Some disks really feel like they're gonna crack or
split when they're remove from their cases!

yeah...when you buy an album the small "holders" in the case
often splinters

Yeah, i know what you mean, but it never got to this extreme

It was a fairly localised problem Jarworski, I think the
drives were LG drives. We had plates to fit inside the
drives, but that didn't stop the disks shattering, it just
kept the disks inside the drive - instead of impaling the
user!

Don't worry about it Meho - the problem was only with a
certain manufacturers 48x - 52x drives

I've been in a room when one explodes inside the drive
(didn't come out threw the casing though) - it was quite
loud!

If you could imagine sat at a desk, and kicking the
underneath of the desk as hard as you could - that would
sound pretty much like it!

Junktion: how do you get italic letters?

Not at all - this was limited to a specific batch of CD-ROM
drives. Mines a Creative 52x, and my other PC has an Acer
50x
