Photek drill n bass?

No kidding. I was sitting on my bed listening to The Seven
Samerai (not the remix but track 9 on Form and Function) and
was thinking what form of drum and bass that would be under
and then it hit me! Would you guys consider that track
drill n bass? It sure sounds like it. Albeit more repetive
than say []<'s drill n bass I think it would be classified
as such....like an early drill n bass. Any thoughts on
this?

Hmmm, perhaps. I'll have to go take a listen. I generally
consider Photek dark drum 'n' bass, which is some kickass
stuff.

I hope Rupert releases some new stuff soon.

If you don't already get Modus Operandi, it's very good.

them, are they worth a listen?

photek=Rupert Parkes

I defintely think he is. He's been around since the early
90's and has released some good tracks. If your able to d/l
songs I'd suggest starting with: Pharaoh and Ni Ten Ichi
Ryu(I think that's right, you'll see it)

He is probally my favorite conventional drum 'n' bass
producer.

Well, not necissarily. I just prefer his pre-solaris
releases. Modus Operandi and Risc V.S. Reward.

Don't get the whole album, try a few songs 1st. I forgot:
Photek - Relics(Plaid Mix) is good too.

there too.

Damn, cant get any of his stuff downloaded fast enough to
get a good listen. Gonna have to wait till tomorrow to form
an opinion unless the magic network fairy comes along and
gives me a DS3 connection to suit my need for speed.

you'll love it...he's so in control of his sound...I
wouldn't call it drillnBass tho...it's just DrumNBass;
Rupert was/is was the best DnB producers in the UK....He
used to spend an incredible amount of time constructing his
breaks, making em something special...

Ni Ten ... .... whatever is may fave...great little video of
samuri's sword figiting to go with it as well if you can
find that...

and yeah, pre-solaris is the way to go...DnB kinda died in
the UK so a lot of the producers moved onto UK Garage or
just faded away....Photek went towards this housey sound on
Solaris that's ok but strangly old-fashioned for a man of
his talents...lost his way a bit I guess...

He still produce great DnB as "Special Forces" on Photek
Produktions =)
I really hope his next move is a Special Forces album!!!!

Unfortunately his latest is not as good as his previous
recordings, its more kind of commercial and less
jungle...Still like his music and remixes but his earliest
stuff, hope he comes back to his jungle/d-n-b roots next
time........

Well he said in a interview ("Groove" i think?) "I reckon i
will return to the Ni Ten era sometime sooner or later ,
thats the Photek sound innit ? "
Yay!!!

i was mad disapointed with solaris. i gave it to my mom
because i found it so boring.

It was extremely boring. I don't know how he got away with
it. I think it's because he got married. I think that
really messed him up and made him go all squishy and less
dark. Marrage will DO DAT 2 U! so
like...yeah...um...photek rules

I forgot how much I love Plaid's remix of Relics. It's just
outstanding. I can't get enough of it.

Ni Ten Ichi Ryu. Ryu is Japnese for dragon, BTW. I have
Form and Function, Risk VS Reward, and Solaris. I like the
first 2 tracks on Solaris, but the rest are shite. I like
the remix of the 7 Samurai better though. Those short
bursts of cowbells kick ass!

Ni ten ichi ryu is japanese for dragon? Uh, I thought it
meant "two swords technique", it has swordclash samples in
it and in the video there are samurai fighters fighting with
a sword in each hand...
