Whats the deal with Autechre?

I own Incunabala. I think its good, but...

µ-ziq + aphex are just SOOOO much better.

Autechre doesn't seem to "hit" me as well as the other
guys.

But I constantly hear people talking about Autechre ALL the
time. Some calling them Gods. Others saying how they are the
best. Whatever. Is there something I'm missing here?

What do they do that makes them so much better? Is
Incunabala sub-par compared to their other stuff?

What do the do to make music: type of eq, their inspiration,
their goals, etc.

Oh my goodness. You CANNOT!! I repeat cannot compare
anyone else with just Incunabula. That is just one cd of
the many. Each sound different...and they get more amazing
after Incunabula. Please don't do that again :) lol.
Autechre are just too good.

Can anyone recommend anything?

get Amber cause that's the next cd after Incunabula. Then
go on to Tri Repetae then onto the joys of their more
mathematics based work...more scientific.

I say skip the mediocre stuff and go straight for the
juglar... LP5, then Cichle Suite, then Chiastic Slide, then
EP7, then Confield, then envane, then if you are feeling
completist get everything else.

LP5 is IMO (and quite a few others I am sure) the most
accessible of their more complicated/complex work. It takes
a might bit of adjustment.

Æ kix every IDM artists ass till its good and bloodied.

By the time you get to EP7, you will feel as though they
have remixed your brains.

everyone that i've played Lp5 for has said "DUDE THESE GUYS
JUST COPY RADIOHEAD"

Man... sillyheads are so stupid when it comes to these
things. Just tell them that Autechre did the style first,
and Radiohead just ripped them off because their frontman is
a silly git that doesn't have an original bone in his body.
If they disagree, just show them the dates of the cd's,
compare when autechre started doing that style to radiohead,
then smack your friend up the head and give them a stoney
silent treatment.

i just allow them to believe the b.s.

i feel introverted w/ ae anyway for some reason

because ae themselves make introverted music

Autechre is amazing, and an aquired taste. Listen to EVERY
album, give them your undivided attention, and listen to the
albums even if it's not immediately pleasing... it will be.

sometimes you cant be sure if youre just listening to a song
or if they are manifesting tools of their own inside your
head and rewiring your brain...

their greatest live performance: MCR Quarter. and probably
one of the greatest things i've ever heard.

Autechre are amazing... right up there with Boards of Canada
in my books, but for different reasons... but yeah, in my
opinion, Incunabula is unlike anything else they've done...
sure it's good, but nothing compared to the rest...

I wouldnt know what to say about that cause I only own
aphex, but i plan on going massive cd shopping and buy
everything BOC-more aphex.

But aphex just changed my whole way of thinking, im scared
to go after more.

Time is of the essence, man... give them TIME! I hated
Confield for a month, but now I'm convinced it's the most
important human creation since... since... ANYTHING!

for me it's

Boards of Canada
Autechre
Aphex Twin

Nobody else gets me emotionally like Boards of Canada, but
Autechre are just freaking awesome!!! Aphex Twin is awesome
as well, but not quite as good...

anytime now.

my top three:

autechre
aphex
uziq

about autechre:
as you ve got incunabula, I suggest you continue knowing
them in order, this is, get amber (first of their
masterpieces) here they really begin to show where will they
get in future, then go to tri repeate (this is like half the
way betwen their smooth beginings and their new
architectural direction) then get prepared for the best:
chiastic slide, lp5, ep7 and confield... this is a trip into
the future, into new ways of comunication, new ways of
music.

you can also complete this with their EPs but thats a long
story then...

offline nacmat on 2002-06-01 01:24 [#00245248]

incunabula is probably the most dated one, the less
impressive, but is very nice to, it is just that they have
gotten so much further...

Git crunch "1/nullpluze" Tracks 9-15 were crafted like
biology, they're "autechre", using that word as an...
undescribable adjective... that autechre is worthy of
coining, (not as an implication that they mimicked or copied
autechre.)

the deal with ae is
1. they are very talented
2. they have a lot of equipment and are not affraid of using
every single effects they own on every songs they do, wich
by the way has turned to mad sounds since lp5

I own Ep7 and its good.
When I first saw it I just bought it for the
cover, and listened to it with my headphones and was happy.

Walking around listening to autechre is nice.

I tend to listen to AE more than AFX when I'm working on
things; painting, writing, whatever...nearly every graphic
designer I know is into AE (not so many like AFX tho...)...

I'd fucking love to discover a new band like AE and have all
their CD's to explore....such an impressive body of
work....

Autechre are so original. That is why I think they are damn
good. Many seem to emulate Aphex with a twist where Autechre
seem to have come up with something all there own.
