wow that sounds painful!!! hahaha...
I would say 140, but that's probably even a little fast. 120 sounds really quite resonable.

180 is 120 (standard House) + 60 (1/2 t120) so you should be able yo get away with something...
180 is more Jungle speed...but maybe it's something worth playwith....

Jand: Could you explain yourself a bit there. What you said is kinda interesting about how those two numbers can go into eachother.
I was about to say 180 is like jungle / dnb. Hardcore rave / happyhardcore I don't think even gets that high (prolly 170-ish)
I like to work with 130-140 for my house music.

Another question: what does 4 on the floor mean? Are you referring to the four kicks per measure or something? like a "boom boom boom boom"?

a one bar loop at 120 will go on for 2 seconds seconds....
a one bar loop at 180 will go on for 3...
Play the 2 togther and you get a repeating pattern....
I'll explain better when I'm more awake...but I hope the idea is there...
basically 180 is like 1.5 x 120....so theres a ratio there and all music is ratio....be it melody, or rhymhm or frequency/tibmre..etc...
A lot of new styles are generated by people playing with this kinda of WACK thkning....

ive always been a big fan of the mathmatical thinking, i already made the observation of 120 and 180. apparently 135 can work but im not sure why. if you look up at where the down hits hit in milliseconds they eventually hit the same as 180. but that is harder to mix than 180 and 120.
try weird length loops like 7 count loops. or 5 count loops.

I have a hard time with complex drum rhythms. so far I can only work with 4/4, 3/4, 6/8. I would like to work with 5s or 7s.

Im going to study radiohead's first song on Kid A. that's like a 10/4 song...its 4/4 kick but more bars or something than a 4/4 beat. I don't know all the terminology.

Sure thing.... just got to pop to the docs to hopefully fleece something for the weekend...
But will talk more about this when I get back or later tonight...it's part of maths
that is very intriguing... My Avatar uses some of the technique I outlined (but visually of course...)....
(time sigs and loop lengths are similar in many ways; epecially when you use more than one at same time...)...
talk more later....

Richie Hawtin. De9
When I write house music I usually do it at about 240bpm (give or take about 20bpm). There is a lot of space in there to work with. Eventually it translates into 120bpm with tinie sounding melodies.

Polyrythmic has been used in classical music a long time. =)
and.... house is about 120-130. 180 is downright hardcore techno.
