I noticed something...

when we have topics that are like "your favourite autechre
tracks" or "who's better, x or y," people tend to just say
which they like or the occasional "I agree with [name]" -
whereas when we have topics like "playing Aphex on the
kazoo" people have a lot more interesting and diverse
comments.

just making an observation.

i'm gonna have to say both x and y
unless it's a romantic connection, then x and x tend to work
best

Maybe the reason is when people ask a question with a simple
answer, like X or Y, or which is your favorite of A, B, C,
and D, people have less options then when people make a
topic entitled

GOD - Discuss

what say you?

x = sean booth
y = rob brown

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwseanboothrobbrownz

yeah, I agree. it's like the difference between a multiple
choice and a fill in the blank question.

the point I was trying to make is that [in general] the
interaction between people is much greater on arbitrary
topics than in "name your fave" or "x or y" topics.

yeah...agreed....

Lists are what your girlf gives you so you don't forget her
tampax...not the most exciting of thread styles....

but really I love it when we digress.....shit, ths mb is
pretty dam good as they go; sure, we have some shit but we
have a lot of decent stuff as well....and I've yet to see a
newbie treated with anything other than respect (and that is
rare on th net!!!)....

I'm a good move tonite...d'ya guess?....

oohhhh...

so u mean like, the thread that's posted in the form of a
question or the like that allows a broader diversity of
input is what tends to be more interesing? i think i c what
u mean...

yes...its a proven fact that open discussions are far more
interesting than simple surveys...

i feel a slight peng of annoyance whenever i see a new
'whats your favorite ___ ?' or 'better:x or y?' thread
(no offence or anything..to those who start
them...repeatedly...you know who you are!)

yeah no kiddin' jand. I love the unstructured form. and this
is a great message board!! I was treated badly by a
troll as a newbie, but there was so much support from other
board members that I realised how great the board actually
is and I stuck with it :)

pachi: yeah, there's threads where it's like "what's the
best aphex song EVER" or "top 10 pooping songs" and then
everyone will just rattle off their list/song, etc. and
there won't be much interaction, but when you say like
"topic : my comment on this topic" people tend to interact
more. that's the kind of thread that makes this board
interesting.

yeah, wayout, it's not that creative. but often I have seen
those threads get sabotaged and it does worlds of good for
them :)

so for example of a favorable topic:

my favorite form of excretion is...?

hahaha, you should try that!

but people react psychologically different to those types of
"what's your faves" because it's such a weird question,
whereas they have easy answers to "what's your fave Autechre
song"
