this isnt the typical one though. i was just wondering why
orion is never a part of those conversations cause orion
fruityloops and reason all seem highly comparable programs
to me. ive used them all and although they are each quite
different they are along the same lines as far as what you
can do and how much they cost. its weird to me.

i can't tell much about reason, tested it not enough, but it
seems to very complex, all these modules and sequencers,
samplers and synths. it looks a bit circumstantial, the
pattern knobs from the drummachine, the sequence isn't long,
just 16 steps, can't remember exactly... i mean, all this
modules and displays etc. ; i don't wanna scroll around on
my live gigs ;)

I don't know. I put fruityloops a notch or two above reason.
And orion seemed only usefull for shit like trance music.

i felt the same way! i cant stand reason i was mostly going
with the price(come to think of it it cost way more) and
what people claim about it. but i still think the 3
programs are quite comparable in the end. i like orion alot
though in the end. fruityloops is a long time old friend
and really has more but certain features in orion help me
lay out songs in a better fassion. much more intuitively.
but my songs always and forever start with a loop made in
fruityloops.

any sampling program can rise above any style of music
genre, that is the soul of what sampling is. i dont
understand why people claim certain programs only make
certain music.

Well, thats just what I got when I opened orion, it just
radiated 'trance music'.

Besides, the midi is all fucked up on my computer, and I
can't generate any noise in orion. Opened it for a couple
minutes and then closed that shit down.

d'you think it makes a sense using a hardware sampler with
fruityloops ?

It might make a sence, but not much more.

is your midi messed up in general or only when you use
orion? cause i had a problem using midi when i was using
orion 2.75 i havent tried to see if 3.0 fixed the problem
yet.

actually using a hardware sampler with fruityloops is
something ive considered. with a high end sampler you could
have multiple outputs for different samples running into
your mixing board. i like fruityloops alot compared to alot
of hardware sequencers ive tried and its sound tweaking
capabilities and such all are wonderful.
at a time i was considering buying a really nice rack
sampler and just setting the laptop right on top of it on
the desk running fruityloops.

In general. Well, not general... but it fucks up with orion,
and a few other programs.

I am choked... I have to remove reaktor from my puter in
order to fix some baaad registry issues my computer seems to
have.

agh, i hate computer problems. i seem to at the moment be
over mine but for a while i couldnt do anything with midi
and i couldnt get my native instruments to install without
crashing the computer every single start up. it was horrid.

i just have an AKAI S2000 Sampler, but without the 8 output
board, but i think bout that. A DR770 Drummachine from
Boss/Roland also. The Alesis MMT8 with the Doepfer Drehbank
seems to be a perfect sequencing solution for Fruityloops
IMO.

wow normally i am up on hardware but i have no idea about
the mmt8 and the doepfer item. how do they compare in your
mind to fruityloops?

i would highly sudjest getting the 8 outputs for your rack
though. tweaking everything in a mixer with eqs and such is
really nice and you can route everything seperately to
effects and such. and still have sounds coming out of
fruity too.

being able to fade a real mixer knob up only on a kick drum
or certain sounds without the others being affected is
pleasant. you need multiple outs for that.

the Alesis MMT8 is one of the best pattern and song
sequencer ever created, it's an old one but very stable and
easy to use. you can turn off/on patterns in realtime, and
fruityloops do the same, so it's perfect to changing
songs/patterns with the knobs on it, so you can modulate all
the controllers you want with the Doepfer Drehbank fruityloops
is so nice, i just do a right-klick on knob or whatever
"link to controller". let the mmt8 start, choose/change your
patterns whenever you want and squelch it with the drehbank
!

i thought the yamaha rm1x was excellent sequencer. but in
the end i went with the computer. there are still features
on the rm1x i miss though.

hm.. dunno much about the rm1x, it's an all in one, no ?
with memory for sounds i belive..

i need a powerful notebook for live gigs...
i'm on think bout my sampler...
fruityloops can do everything what the sampler does..

yes but fruityloops cant do multiple outs... believe me if
youve tried doing things that way youd know how nice it is.

the rm1x wasnt an all in one but it was one of the best
sequencers ever. the sounds pretty much suck too but with a
good synth and sampler you could do great stuff with it.

the yamaha rs7000 or something like that was an all in one i
heard great things about. its a big silver thing. im told
by people i respect oppinions of that its great great stuff.

the thing about the rm1x that struck me is that you could
control things much more live than alot of other groove box
type machines. the velocity knob can do great things if you
know what youre doing. nothing else has a velocity knob.

hmmmm I haven't used Reason but BT (I'm sure you guys have
heard of this d00d) has published alot of the stuff he has
produced with Reason!!!! He's a professional at that
business, so Reason must be good. As for Fruityloops. . .
that's what I use, and it's great, but I don't think any
modern, popular electronic artists use it to produce their
music (it's more for beginners, I think, even though it's
got many capabilities!)

But what about Acid? Yah, I know you have to buy the sample
cd's seperately, but it's still possibly the best
looping/sequencing/music-making software out there, I think.

What are you talking about? A lot of published artists use
fruityloops.

Proem. Bit Medler. There are quite a few others that I can't
quite think of right now.
