the summer 2002 braindance tour of usa!
featuring: bogdan raczynski, cylob, dmx krew and ovuca!
Thursday 5/23 2002 @ 9:00PM
FUN New York, NY

OK Quoth you win, here's a full review.

Alright, we arrived and I somehow got passed the bouncers
with a fake ID that says I'm 20 (the entry was 21), I have
no idea what happened, but we were in. Cylob was up DJing
some acid type shit, noone was really dancing, I went and
got a beer. Cylob started dropping some familiar tunes,
(AFX - Flow Coma RMX), (Cylob - Diof 97) everybody
cheered...

Then, it turned out this tall dude with really long hair I
had been dancing next to was DMX Krew, he was dancing mad
80's rave style, it was cool, and then I figured out why.
His whole set was this like half-IDM half-80's electro pop
shit, it was AWESOME. I've been trying to figure out what
the tracks he played were. And if that weren't hot enough,
halfway through one of his tracks he took out a mic and
started rapping, but he had all kinds of live effects on the
mic, and he was dancing around in the booth and it was
fucking awesome. Then the set stopped everyone started
going "D-M-X! D-M-X!" and he put on one last track, which
was, of course, The Glass Room, I was ecstatic (cuz it was
the only track I really knew), but I really didn't expect
him to rap it. What was soo awesome was that he played an
instrumental of The Glass Room and rapped all the lyrics,
but he had totally different effects on his mic than in the
original song, and the one he did was so much cooler than
the original. Everyone went nuts. He stepped down.

Ovuca came up, ovuca basically said, "who's ready for some
ASTROBOTNIA?!" then he hid low behind the podium and just
played a cut up version of all three astrobotnias. The
music was amazing, but the way he just hid behind podium
without moving or anything made the whole performance less
interactive, less people were dancing. It was basically
like listening to a recording of Astrobotnia, which wasn't
so bad, cuz Astrobotnia rules. Afte

r the shortest set, (like 25 minutes) Ovuca left the stage.

Then Bogdan came up. Theres absolutely no way to describe
this set. This was the craziest drill and bassiest most
fucking insane thing I've ever heard live or not. He
dropped the Tune from this game for NES called the
Adventures of Lolo, I don't know if anyone besides me
recognized it, then it sort of turned into drum and bass,
and got faster and faster people were just like bouncing up
and down trying as hard as they could to keep up with it.
The second the music would stop somebody would shout
"BOGDAN!!!!!" or "FUCKING A!!!" He played a bunch of shit
from Samurai Math Beats and a couple tracks from
myloveilove. I wasn't (until last night) that big a fan of
Bogdan so I didn't recognize alot of it. The most amazing
thing, was Bogdan's dancing. He would like twitch to every
single little snare in his music, he would sing all the
japanese lyrics and shake his shoulders to every single bass
when it got fast enough he would like cover his ears close
his eyes and shake his head back and forth and scream, (this
is the one part I really wanted my camera). It made
everyone as into it as he was. My friend noah (the one who
saw AFX live at ATP UCLA) started praying to the podium.
Bogdan stopped, people basically wouldn't stop cheering,
everyone thought he would do an encore but he kinda just
walked off with a little wave.

Cylob came up again, about 1/4 of the people left (very
foolishly), as this was one of the hottest parts of the
show. Cylob dropped every hot tune I could think of. He
cut my Red Hot Car and I cleared a circle (now there was
enough room to) to breakdance in the breakdown of the track,
it was dope. Cylob also played (not in this order):

Aphex Twin - Meltphace 6
Aphex Twin - Start As You Mean To Go On
Squarepusher - Untitled (WAP155)
Chaos A.D. - Psultan
Cylob - Cut the Midrange Drop the Bass
Cylob - Rewind
Cylob - What Shall We Do With a Drunken Sailor
Some other Global Goon, D'Arcangelo, and to

ns more that I can't remember.

I did some more breaking, Shook Bogdan's hand and told him
his set kicks ass. We went to DMX Krew and asked him if
he's got more stuff coming out, he said "Loads" in such a
heavy british accent it was hard to not laugh. "Lowds
More"...hahah. anyway. I was going to ask Ovuca if he
wrote the Astrobotnia tracks he was playing but he was
passed out on the chill-out couch of the club. I think he
might have been sick that's why his set was so short and
uninvolved. At 4:00 the show stoped, I went over and talked
to Cylob for a bit. He's a fat jolly bastard, really nice
guy.

We walked out, Cylob, DMX Krew, and some other dude right
behind us. We had called a cab and they were standing on
the corner trying to get a yellow cab. I would have offered
them a ride but there were three of us and three of them and
we wouldn't have fit. We waved bye (I was thinking about
yelling "SUCKERS" as we drove off, but they were such nice
guys). When I got home I started the thread I met Cylob...,
at which point I promptly passed out. And that was that

Random factoid (since I hve no pictures):
Cylob was rocking a Rephlex T-Shirt
Bogdan was wearing this shirt that said "Sleep Tiger" and
had a cartoon tiger head on it.
DMX Krew was wearing an old skool New Balance t-shirt
and Ovuca had a tight zip up brown hoodie.
