I appreciate art as much as music. I just wanted to know
what artists you think are intersting especially cutting
edge, controversial artists(that are still alive and
producing right now). My favorite artists are: Damien
Hirst (visual, installations etc.) Daim (german graffiti
artist) The Mac (graffiti) etc. There are many more, cant
remeber names will post later. You can look up Damien Hirst
on the internet, unforunately it doesn't show his best stuff
online :( and you can find work by Daim, the mac on
www.artcrimes.com.

architecture is the total art.

I like art
I don't know I'm an artist.

I went to an art school since I was 12 years old.
I can draw,I can paint,I can make sculptures,I can make and
develop photographs,....

(I made one sculpture and a photograph based on the
Beautiful story of Izanagi and Izanami .
Uzim knows that story )

Then I went to study Fashion design ,in the Royal Academy of
Antwerp,Fashion Department.
This school is known all over the world.
I had 6 (!) Japanese people in my class,
And a lot of other foreign students.
About 20 % of our class was Belgian.
...but I didn't pass the first year. =(

Next year I'm going to study Theatrecustumedesign,in the
same school.

so Am I an artist?

I don't know.
I'm probably not good enough to make it....

the visual arts world.

im trying to convince my self that i'll be ok too.
im studing at Glasgow school of art doing photography,

its scary sh*t

Supreme... that Erwin Olaf stuff is some crazy shit. Really
kitsch like David Lachapelle. I liked some of it, lke the
Royal Portraits and some of the ads where the people look
like Cabbage Patch kids. Is it all straight photography or
digital also?

you know who you probably like a lot, Matthew Barney, seems
totally your style.

Joel Peter Witkin is powerful as fuck. You can't look at his
work without having a reaction.

I go to art college too and also am 20. I am not going to
make it either. We had a portfolio review at my school where
magazines and businesses came to look at our work, and those
people totally made me feel like my work sucked. They said
my type of photography wasn't what they were looking for and
I showed them videos I've done, and they didn't know how to
react. It sucks, because I'm not good at BSing and selling
myself. And as artists that's what we have to do.

acquaintances, the other half were internet acquaintances.
i'll post you a message if/when i bring PHUX back this
summer.

offline titsworth from Washington, DC (United States) on 2002-05-25 18:04 [#00234703]

it's original artwork compiled. people make whatever they
like and i assemble everything together in "packs" (group
releases) and put them on the (now non-existent) web site
for everyone to look at. every artist gets credit for his or
her work and is expected to be original/themselves.
sometimes i try to get people to follow a certain theme but
it's not necessary. the art is mostly photoshop stuff but
we've published everything from paintings to pen doodles to
silk screen designs to collages to photography. i had
planned to bring in a lit section before the site
(unexpectedly) went down in jan 2000.

I'll check Matthew Barney.

...

I did a google search,and It looks like I have a favourite
artist more....
Thans very much again!

I know exactly how you feel.
After I didn't pass in the fashion academy,I was so confused
and disappointed,....
There's nothing you can do ....
I'm going to give it one more try(with theatrecostume..),and
if I fail,I just accept I'm not as good as I wanna be....

Titsworth... I'd be interested in contributing, just post
when you are ready.

Supreme, Don't give up. 96% of the people who graduate from
art related colleges don't go on to be artists. There are
many reasons why, such as need for money, lack of support,
lack of art community, etc. I do art not because I want to
but because I need to. I couldn't just stop doing it. There
is a really good saying that goes, "The only person that
cares about your art is you." And that's true, but that's
all that matters. If you do for you, other people will
eventually see what you see, but it takes time, and that's
the toughest part. Even if no one ever does at least you'll
be satisfied. At least this is what I keep telling myself.
Being unsure and doubting your art is natural and good. I
don't think any artist is confident in what they make, even
Witkin and Olaf. That's the exciting part. Art would be so
boring if you knew people were going to automaticly like it,
and stale if someone didn't hate it.

Yeah, anyway Matthew Barney is good, but it's almost
impossible to see his films. I think he just finished the
series of 5 films centering around the theme of Cremaster
and the testicles descending in men through puberty. They've
screened his videos at my college and that is the only
reason I've seen them. They are elaborate, with costumes,
theatres, fashion, sculpture and huge sets. They really
remind me of Olaf's Royal Blood Series stylisticly and you
should check them out.

I forgot some artist: ORLAN!!!

Orlan is a French performance artist whose most recent work
is herself. Entitled The Reincarnation of Saint Orlan, she
has since May 1990 undergone a series of plastic surgical
operations to transform herself into a new being, modelled
on Venus, Diana, Europa, Psyche and Mona Lisa.

This is the result:

orlan

I'm going to look for a link for Amanda LePore too, she's
also a body artist.
