I think that people tend to focus too much on what is bad about music or movies, they forget about what is good about it and let the bad points dominate. Because of this our opinion of what is good is getting narrower all the time. Instead of evolving the art, it ruins all the fun IMHO.... What do you think?

negative comments are more unifying accross a broad spectrum
It is generally assumed that people on this board do not like pop music. On this board then it is possible to talk about the nuiances (sp?) of some piece because we are generally in agreement that techno/IDM/whatever the fuck you wanna call this, is "good" music.
A magazine, doesn't have that ability, as they need to sell copies. In that case, a negative connotation gives people something to read about, they don't feel their own tastes are being threatened, and maybe they will buy the mag.
To me, it comes to something very simple. I enjoy lots of music, especially rock music. Good music though, good, timeless music though, for me is a group/band that puts out music that they love. Music that they play to get out their emotions and tell a story.
Songs on the radio i generally consider too broad to be honest and emotional, not to say I don't enjoy some, but it's like conversations and people, there are a lot out, no point in not enjoying as much as you can, but the true golden ones for each person only come along after much searching, and like you said, this leaves much opportunity for negativity.

I think you are right because those bad things get quite annoying. One way of getting noticed is to be annoying and that is what is constantly happening with pop-culture.

I agree totally. Look at the negative lyrics of some rap and rock music. Lots of celebrities seem to have become famous through being irritating too...

In my opinion when a person does not know whether he/she is annoyed because something noticed or is noticing something when annoyed is an excellent basis for hatred. So like, make everyone hate you and than assimilate everything they do against you = evolution of pop-culture.

I know, for them, the only way out is to unsult other music. It one of the first signs of having a lack of musical skill. If you want to make a parody, at least make sure that your skills are better than the person you are trying to make fun of. If that's not the case then I think the joke is very weak and childish....

In my opinion it is far easier for some people to criticise, than to actually praise someone. Maybe it a jealous thing....their work/music is better than yours....I don't know.

Constructive critism is fine, just shit like "your track sucks..." is just menaingless....
But you're right...but it's a thin line between empty critism and useful critism...

Absolutely, and as Jand says if it's constructive criticism, then I agree. Otherwise it just insults!

TRUE, if someone has an idea what should be praised. Therefore there must be a reason for criticising and praising. Usually what is disfunctional or brings any form of disfunctionality is not praised unless one is convinced that doing the opposite is a correct thing to do.
