Ok, I wonder is it inspired in part by Nannou? Both sound like musical boxes, and I just listened to Pagan Poetry and a sound in the song reminded me a lot of Nannou... I wonder...

it does say on Vespertine in the thank-yous, thanks to Richard J... so maybe that refers to Richard D. James...
btw afxNUMB, Nannou is a song on Windowlicker which sounds like a musical box...

well...aphex has been an inspiration to bjork for years apparently...so it is possible..
but she also said she wanted the album to have a real 'domestic' feel (an early working title was 'domistika')...and also to sound good even on crappy computer speakers... so i guess she figured music box-y sounds were appropriate for these ideas...

personally I find "homogenic" the greatest bjrk album.it's so intense and full of emotions."vespertine" sounds like, I don't know- rest? something like musical cocoon, it's too quiete and peaceful for me.

something is strange with "vespertine"- i can't hear matmos work at all- it is not their style- no "surgery" samples and stuff. did she work with kronos quartet too making this album?

matmos only did work on a few of the tracks ...and the whole surgery sample thing was just part of the concept on 'a chance to cut..'
they seem to sample things that go with the theme of the album...like 'hidden place' samples the sound of cards being shuffled
i dont think she worked with the kronos quartet... most of the string parts were from the icelandic string octet i believe

Have you heard any of the remixes from Vespertine? There's the Odd Duck mix of one of the tracks by Matmos that sounds defintively like their liposuction thing
