Wireless Surfin'

I have been bought a load of wireless networking kit in
work, and me and a colleague have set up our Sony laptops
this afternoon!

This means I can wander about the place with my laptop and
surf the Internet and post messages here without being
plugged in anywhere!!! Very cool!

The only drawback is that the LAN connection is only 11Mbit
instead of 100mbit - but my laptop has built in 100Mbit
anyway for when I want to download 'big' stuff.

I can even walk down the corridor and use it, even outside
the window and sit on the grass embankment (on sunny days
that is!!)

I'm so happy!

:)

It's quite mad using Microsoft Messenger, and roaming freely
with the laptop....quite mad!!!

:)

Yes, this is "must-have" tech for the home. I have an
Orinoco wireless broadband gateway at home and it works
great.

We even have two old laptops hooked up to speakers that we
can use to stream our entire music collection wherever we
want in the house.

And it was about $150 for the starter kit. Cheap!

roomate has a router that splits our effective T1 into his
desktop and laptop. iBook uses and airPort, so he plays
games on the desktop, pauses to chat with friends on laptop,
no alt-tab, and laptop can be on bed, etc.

he has wireless mouse and keyboard too, i think I want that
next time around.

they are rigging the school 100% wireless around campus too,
so you can sit on a lawn and surf

seems a happy medium, get the kids outisde, even if they
bang away on the keys

my blue heaven

the net...

Hmmmm or if you're bored while doing some driving on a
highway by yourself or something you could have cyber sex!
But it might be a little awkward, what with the laptop on
your. . . lap, and all. LOL

well, if you got a van, just get in the back seat, and put
the lap top on the seat or something... then you got lots of
room to "work"... :)

It is cool, but forget about that tan, the glare from the
sun makes it impossible to see the screen in bright light.

I wonder if those wearable computer goggles would work. But
then you'd look like a right eejit.

hum, didn't think of glare, LCD isn't as bad as CRT screans,
but I wonder if it is even practical to bring a laptop
outside

lots of us computer kids don't like the sun when we surf
about though.....
we only come out at night

My computer is in my dark, scary room... I have my eerie
lamp in the corner on, and the curtains closed...
muhahahahahahaha... I'm also as white as printer paper, but
I can't help it because I literally can't tan anyway, I've
tried. I just fry like a turkey in an oven.

Ophecks, you're just like my roomate.

We both trend towards the dark, but he can't tan for his
life. He goes to hawaii, and sits in the hotel room afraid
he'll fry if he steps foot outside.
