it's a double standard/hypocrisy central to rap, really. not all rappers do it, but it's widespread. i think some rappers are phasing it out. i made an effort not to talk about homosexuality as much as i did in the first battle, cos in truth i am very much for gay rights. most gay men i've come across are very feminine, so it's a valid insult in hip-hop to me - but it can be overused. also, in hip-hop i think a lot of black rappers are phasing out their usage of the term "nigga". it's almost NEVER used in a negative racial context, but again it presents a hypocrisy and double standard. you can't really preach against discrimination when you refer to your friends as yo niggaz. |
