did you hear lp5/ep7? Try track 4 on chichlisuite, if you
don't like that perhaps there's something wrong with your
parietal lobes. What's your favorite aphex twin material?

i'm not denying the fact these guys are really good, but i
enjoy aphex twin better... my fav. aphex twin

all his work

the greatest artist's in electronic music history imo.

similar stuff? fast percussion (squarepusher big
loada,feedme weird)?

i just thought when the guy recommended me this stuff it
wouldn't entirely consist of samples

Musically, I think autechre knocks the pants off of the
aphex twin.

They seem to be much nicer people too.

offline Taxidermist from Black Grass on 2002-05-20 08:28 [#00226268]
Points: 9958 Status: Lurker

Last I listened, autechre didn't seem to use many samples.

there really is no thing similar to RDJ aphex twin is
amazing shit but newer autechre is like they threw the rule
book out and yr trying to figure out how this it is even
music

Maybe cylob lobster tracks is the type of thing you'd like.

offline Cfern from Sacto (United States) on 2002-05-20 08:32 [#00226274]
Points: 1384 Status: Lurker

ya all of the albums sound really different just like
aphex... i don't like everything ae do...im not the biggests
tri repentte fan

Oh you like the simpler stuff I guess, might as well try
dated stuff like meat beat manifesto or something. or
depeche mode's violator. you'd probably like future sound of
london, I don't really like it though much.

lobster tracks is made by rolly eyed monsters, like things

offline ChildrenTalking from United States on 2002-05-20 08:35 [#00226280]
Points: 2712 Status: Addict

it has nothin to do with being simpler....Autechre just gets
very repetative....i mean compare Wabby Legs to an Autechre
song....it blows it out of the water

offline Taxidermist from Black Grass on 2002-05-20 08:40 [#00226284]
Points: 9958 Status: Lurker

Man, autechre have some songs that are so brilliantly
realized, I haven't heard another human being (or computer)
that can even come close. Its just too amazing. To perfect.
And how they do the abstact beats is beyond me.

offline Cfern from Sacto (United States) on 2002-05-20 08:42 [#00226287]
Points: 1384 Status: Lurker

well it's two different really. but all Aphex's stuff pre
95 is pretty repetitive. Autehcre is much more subtle....

sorry for being mean about Cyclob..just don't think he
should be mentioned in the same sentance as auctechre and
AFX that's all. that and he is one of the few idm artists i
don't like...him and everyone else on Replhex....sorry kids

There are only two artists that I consider to be good on
rephex.

Ed DMX
Global Goon

I admit it. I wasn't impressed by those astrobotnia samples.
And Cylob is one of the worst published artists out there
IMO. Don't feel bad for hating on him, Cfern. I don't.

offline w M w from London (United Kingdom) on 2002-05-20 08:51 [#00226293]

I love lobster tracks but cylobian sunset is too boring to
get into. LT is quite a silly videogamey annoyingly
entertaining album, heh heh.

offline Cfern from Sacto (United States) on 2002-05-20 08:52 [#00226295]

thanks Taxidermist... i guess I should check out astrobotnia
. The only Rephlex artist I like is Bodgan and im not crazy
about him or anything. not counting afx, spusher and
mu-ziq of course

AFX better than AE?...
AE better than AFX?...

both sentences seem kinda wack...I get things out of AE that
I don't get out of AFX and things out of AFX I don't from
AE...

offline Cfern from Sacto (United States) on 2002-05-20 09:16 [#00226311]

ya i'll go with that

You know who is better than both?

Niel Diamond.

i agree that ae is repetitive, although i do like subtelty
....afx has more variety and ae to me are 'just another idm
band'

This is ridiculous, like trying to compare potatoes to
kittens. This is about preferences, obviously, not about
quality. Drop it.

And whoever says Ae is (overtly) repetitive, hasn't listened
to EP7/ Confield yet.

offline Taxidermist from Black Grass on 2002-05-20 10:43 [#00226347]
Points: 9958 Status: Lurker

Word. Confield proved that Æ are the ones inventing styles,
not following them. Drukqs sounded like one of the most
generic IDM albums I have ever heard.

offline Meho Krljic from Beograd (Yugoslavia) on 2002-05-20 10:49 [#00226358]
Points: 6617 Status: Addict

And even "Anti" was composed using non-repetitive beats as a
reply to this law/ bill brought by the UK govn't, wasn't it.
And, you're right about Drukqs, but I predict another heated
debate to rise out of this. God knows there have been
debates before... In the end it just breaks down to this: to
each his own...

I feel that autechre and aphex are in such different worlds
that you cannot judge or compare.

confield is fucking amazing. put it on sometime when you're
trying to draw a picture, or do something mildly cerebral.

druqks is my holy grail.

Compared, yes, but I feel that trying to rank them in an
absolute way (what this topic implies) is fruitless.

I disagree. The thing is, autechre is eons ahead of
Aphex Twin.

offline illfates from space (United States) on 2002-05-20 11:05 [#00226383]

some of the tracks on drukqs are throughly unique, so far
from a style and so bent up their own asses in patterns on
patterns and back to your favorite paradiddle that you
can not claim them as more or less advanced than some other
artist's tracks

Ys I can.

Drukqs is boring. Confield is
interesting.

Taxi. I actually prefer new Ae to new AFX but wouldn't dare
trying to make an absolute statement. It's unhealthy and
plus I'm not ready to fight anyone over it...

HAHAH LOL I feel exactly the opposite!!!!

subdued? mmm.. some of the peaks in the faster tracks are as
vicious on me as the soft ones are gentle.
