What if.....?

What if there had never been something like the Aphex
Twin?
Would we exist today?
Or would we still swim in LCL for longer than eternity?

hehe. i've wondered that myself. if there were no aphex
twin, we wouldn't hang out on the "aphex twin community
messageboard" anyway. still, there were other creative
electronica artists back in the day...like in the early
nineties. i still think (some of us) would be here today.
aphex twin was my introduction to this whole electronica
thing, so wonder what i would've listened to if the twin
never existed. i mean, he's influenced a whole musical
genre, so things would be different today. impossible to say
what exactly though...

Yeah, you are damn right, i presume!
Nothin to add reguarding Aphex.
Some years ago I thought he was a insane psycho!
Today I KNOW he´s an ill-styling God of
Elekktro_Experimental, but in the most positive way.

"If he didn't exist, someone would try to invent him."

That's an Elvis Costello slogan from one of his early day
posters, I think the same can be applied here, no?

But what if there hasn´t been an inventor?
Would nature invent itself or is it a consequence of the
need for it?

Aphex Twin made this type of music popular so there would be
a lot less people into it if he wasn't around.

I didn´t mean if people would be into that music.
I mean if people would BE/LIVE/EXIST!
What do we think....
(Be/Live - what an expression! :-)

People would get into it...eventually.. but after a lot of
other pathways have been exhausted I think.

What if Richard's unborn older brother, Richard, were born
instead of him? Same thing, the music would come around
eventually.

There's always an inventor, look at all of those that have
come before him in the classical world and have influenced
him in his past and now.. it would happen, a random spark
in someone's gene pool would allow it so.. it wouldn't be
exactly the same mind you.. but people would come round to
this 'kind' of music in the end.

But what if FATE (or how people may call it...) wanted
exactly THIS livin Richard, the Aphex of the day, to live?
Can we be sure if the UnbornAphex (the brother) would have
done the same thing?
What if there had been another path in one´s life, a path
we cannot imagine since this Aphex lives?
What if the idea of his music was only written into his
genes?
Would everything still be the same?
Was it the plan of something/body that I ask this question?
Or does that mean (asking the question) that there is nothin
to stop me from that?

If music is written through one's genes well..then I fear
the day we learn all our gene's secrets..

I, for one, musical genius (And hopefully other types of
artistic genius) come from the soul and life
experiences/thought processes more then they do from fixed
genes.

Its an interesting idea but if you started thinking like
that, you’d also have to consider when these genes expire,
at which point they’ve given all they can give and can’t
be creative anymore..hmm.. its too simple and too complex a
system.

Maybe our genes are the unit that controls us, what would
implicate (?)
that there would be no souls or that souls would be
useless.
But nature hates things without use, so maybe one day it is
good for another sense.
Maybe stopping the genes from expirering or avoiding it.
(Man, i have to improve my English)

The thing about genes controlling us is well.. things in
nature don't tend to be very similar.. most everything is
individual down to a molecular level, so you'd think that if
these genes control us, and we get genes solely from our
parents and they got theirs from our ancestors as a whole
and we all originated from the SAME ancestors that we'd all
be the same, at least in this 'soul gene' area.

I don't think they're meant to be THAT specific.. I mean
genes.. The thing is we don't even know if there is a smart
gene, what we do know is all pretty basic right now.. it
stipulates hair color, skin color, height etc, but as for
musical skill?! Well as I said, things will be looking
pretty bleak for the future if we do find a way to replicate
something that's supposed to be unique.

certainly easier to understand when compared to the opposite

Definitely. mmm... girls..

Maybe one day they'll find a genome to link two people,
thereby linking the sexes so we can understand each other
better as beings.. hmm.. I guess that's a point of some
religions anyway.. to be connected with everything or with
nature is certainly the Buddhist way.

But until then, we'll have to do with what we got.

Yah the concept of girls as being an "easy" thing in life is
highly misleading, I'd say. . . . unless you're Enrique
Englesias. (I don't see why chicks like that d00d. . . his
ass may be "fine", but his face is HIDEOUS!)

BTW I wonder how Richard did with the girls when he was
yanno a young fellow?

The problem is that Enrique is GAY!!!
Looks like all "beautiful" men have female genes- that means
only women CAN BE nice lookin´.

Hmmmm. . . that logical explanation seems to make a lot of
sense, but if it was true, why do women like gay guys so
much?

I could see him as kind of nerdy when he was younger.. and
then..but he was grown up, even then, and others weren't.

Girls during the teenage younger years tend to be somewhat
immature (at least in my experience) and tend to ignore such
nice well preened fellows like Richard until later..
So..hmm.. in short..

He's not a bad looking fellow but (I assume) girls wouldn't
really start noticing him for him until later.

And anyway some guys can be sexy without being gay. Here's
my own idea of the four hottest people in the world:

Hannah Sung (she's a reporter for Muchnews)

China Chow (she's that incredibly sexy Japanese chick from
the Big Hit)

The lead guy in the Gorillaz (I have do idea what his name
is, but he's the main fellow, yanno)

and the Naked Chef

HEY now..some gay guys ARE something to be envied.. With
others I think its just the fact that they can't have them
that makes them more desirable. Hmm..

But as a whole..girls are weird..and so are their tastes..
you never know WHAT they're going to like.

"handsomeness" in other guys too. Or attractiveness,
anyway.

I would also say that John Digweed is pretty sexy, check out

i think music would have eventually gotten to where it is

have taken a wee bit longer, and the world would suck a

Yeah. . . after all, it's not like Aphex Twin invented
electronica, and even so, he still DIDN'T have that big an
influence on the whole of it, either (only IDM; hell, he
invented intelligent dance music, and maybe drum and bass
too). There have been other electronica musicians around
since the mid 80's that just have still not made it into the
mainstream. (I'm talking about the mainstream of electronica
fans here, because electronica is still not even a very
obscure genre). Anyway heard of Phlanger, or Tom Hill??
