I was going to buy this motherboard http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c 2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=31608&PX_Session=45 ad8303a32b86effea140f4ad4b6509 for an XP2000+, but the mobo spec says "supporting frontside bus (FSB) speeds up to 100/133 MHz" The XP2000+ is a "AMD ATHLON-XP2000+Socket A 266MHz FSB Processor " does this mean the CPU's frontside bus is too fast for it? cos it said it 'supports a full range of AMD Athlons' |

"does this mean the CPU's frontside bus is too fast for it?" Yes, I think so. Remember an 'Athlon' is something different than an 'Athlon XP' I don't think it'll work properly on this mb. And if it works, it won't work optimally. |

I think it's always a good idea to buy the MB and CPU together if pos...it can be a bit of a minefield and it's easy to end up with a combo that works but isn't using the CPU features to the max... |

Well cos its a Digital Audio Workstation i'm building and there have been many problems with soundcards and VIA chipset motherboards. I've ordered the motherboard and cpu tonight, just got confirmation, cheers for the help guys =) |

MSI rules!Buy MSI! I have K7T-Turbo R Limited Edition in my computer and An regular K7T-Turbo in my other computer! They totally rock! And you can always underclock the FSB to what you want. Congrads on the new PC, gonna probably upgrade to an XP 2002+ here soon, what kind of video card you runnin? |

Ok, UDMA 100 = data transfer @ 100MBs/sec, Its not special, just how the HD transfers data to the rest of the system. UIDE133 = ultra IDE, data transfer @ 133Mbs/sec. I have an EIDE HD, enhanced IDE. It will work, just that you wont get a 133MBs connection, just a 100MBs connection. It supports IDE so that shouldnt be a problem unless the HD is really new and the mobo is really old, because the IDE should be universal with all types of it. In plain english, it should work, just not at its full capacity. IMPORTANT!: DO NOT, DO NOT, have your HD plugged into an IDE chain with anything else but another HD of equal or greater data transfer! Becuase most IDE devices except for mid to high level hard drives run at 66MBs/sec or below, therefore slowing your hard drive down to that speed instead of 100MBs+! There should be 2 IDE ports on the mobo, plug your HD into slot one using a high speed IDE cable that will meet the data transfer of your hard drive! Then you plug your CD-ROMS, etc. into slot 2. Its good that your system runs at max FSB, which is the speed at which the CPU communicates with everything else. And yes, underclocking would make it slower, but its slower FSB or nothing at all, your choice. Im a big PC gamer so I have a GeForce 3 Ti 500 now dated by the highest model GeForce 4. Whew! |

As for mobos, buy MSI! Dont buy Epox or Gigabyte.Abit and Ases are also top brands too. |

Cheers for the tips, have a read of this review of the board I ordered.. http://www.hardocp.com/reviews/mainboards/msi/k7n420pro/ its got loadsa onboard thing such as network port and sound etc...does this mean I don't need to buy a network card (i'm going to connect it to the network in the house)? If I don't that'd be pretty useful. Also, its going on about the graphics of the chipset...do I even need a graphics card? surely I do..or is even this integrated? nighty night |

Your network card is built in, no need to worry about that, ive got hundreds of them along with about 6 extra old PCs, about 10 hard drives, 4 CD-ROMS, a couple floppy, mountains of cables, a spare DSL modem, hundreds of graphics cards, mice, etc. I have just about anything needed to build 5 or more computers. From what I can tell The graphics card is integrated, but built in ones are usually crappy and have no more than 8MB of memory. Dont even think about doing any thing 3D with one of those under the hood. |

B3n i would recommend gettin an ASUS mother board. i am not sure if this is true with other motherboards but with asus, you will always be able to upgrade the processor to any AMD processor. because they're all compatible. anyway, i always go asus and have never had problems upgrading AMD processors. ROCK ON!! |

Well I think Asus only make boards with a VIA chipset, which I can't get because of problems with pro soundcards. I also don't want to overclock, and I don't play games so its not important. But thanks anyway |

266 = 2 x 133 so this MB is ok for you no MB upto now really works on 266 Intel P4 is 4 x 100 = 400 or 4 x 133 = 533 for example and yes, Asus is ok |
