Penis enlargement, breast enlargement, new diets,
university dimplomas, teen-sex, animal-sex, be a millionaire
in a day, free pasta (!), Human Growth Hormone Therapy,
Tremendous Savings (on everything), and a couple of week-ago
I got a mail with "free incest" as subject. Made me sick.
How the hell can I protect my mailbox from this shit? I have
a spam-filter, but it doesn't seem to work any good.

would have been nice :P

Suddenly I came up with a really cruel thing to do. If you
have the e-mail adress to someone you don't like, you can
put up their adress and register on every damn website on
the net. :)

you could refine your spam filter.. guess you use procmail
if it's on stud.

try adding these regexp rules to your .procmailrc file:

.*([Ff]ree|FREE|[Aa]ffect|AFFECT|[Cc]ash|CASH|[Bb]usiness|[
Cc]asino|CASINO|[Mm]agnificent|[Ss]hip|[Tt]ired|[Hh]arness|
[Ss]py|[Bb]oost|[Ss]uper|[Ss]aver|[Ii]mprove|VHS|DVD|[Aa]ff
ord|[Mm]illion|[Ff]inance|[Rr]ates|[Ll]owest|[Ss]ecret|[Ee]
xpand).*

.*([Pp]ayment|PAYMENT|[Ii]nstant|INSTANT|[Aa]ttention|[Ss]e
nsation|SENSATION|[Ee]arn|EARN|[Aa]merican|AMERICAN|[Ll]oan
|LOAN|[Ll]earn|LEARN|[Ee]xposure|EXPOSURE|[Ww]holesale|WHOL
ESALE|[Mm]ultiply|MULTIPLY|[Aa]void|AVOID|[Bb]etter|[Nn]ews
letter).*

.*([Mm]oney|MONEY|[Vv]iagra|VIAGRA|[Ss]tock|STOCK|[Pp]aid|P
AID|[Ff]inanc|FINANC|[Gg]uarant|GUARANT|URGENT|[Uu]rgent|[S
s]exy|SEXY|[Tt]eens|TEENS|[Nn]ational|NATIONAL|[Aa]SSET|ASS
ET|[Bb]ackground|BACKGROUND|[Cc]ellular|CELLULAR).*

.*([Ww]eekend|[Pp]romot|[Hh]ottest|[Mm]ortgage|[Pp]ayment|[
Ll]ottery|[Ff]inance|[Aa]merican|[Ee]asily|[Ee]nergy|[Pp]ro
sper|[Mm]arket|[Ee]mploy|[Pp]aralys|[Ff]eel|[Pp]rescript|[E
e]xecutive|[Rr]efin|[Oo]peration|FUTURE|[Cc]ustom|playboy|c
hannel|girl[z]).*

.*(postcard|invite|watching|surprise|needs|meeting|catalog|
intellectual|oil|price|adult|youth|fountain|voucher|guarant
eed|cartridge|naked|celebrit|financial|institution|affiliat
e|market|trading|investment|money|investment|income).*

this should catch most spam (might be a little strict, but
if you don't receive many english mails normally it's good
to be this strict) works like a charm for me.

one of the first rules of receiving spam: don't reply, ever

you only generate more traffic and you will never be removed
from any lists. you just assure the spammer that somebody at
that adress actually exists.

haven't filled in my e-mail adress anywhere. Just at forum's

nexus; if you have one of those "free" accounts, hotmail,
yahoo, etc, I think you will have spam even if you don't
sign up.

some community -- i just block them, and the domain they
came from -- thankfully, their numbers have dimished a lot

I've learned that it's easier and less time consuming to
just delete the spam. After years of looking at it i've
developed the eye for it and know right away what's legit
and what's not.

Or you can continue the futile effort of trying to eliminate
spam permanently from your mailbox, whatever works for you.

I use Outlook 2002's rules wizard to deal with any unwanted
or crappy messages that keep cropping up.

Best way I've found to deal with spam is to have two email
accounts - one you give to family and trusted friends, and
one you give to websites and untrusted friends. :)

I agree Inverted Whale. I have three email addresses, one
for work (which even friends and family don't have - because
I just know the crap I'd get), my main home email address,
and my hotmail account which is listed here in my profile. I
also have the hotmail account for the use of MS Messenger.
