I don't hear a lot about this release. I just downloaded it recently, both parts, and so far I've grown on it much more quickly (instantly, for the most part) than any other RDJ release. It feels much different from his other works, more...rich somehow, I want to say. Definitely much more consistent than pretty much anything else, except perhaps RDJ album, which I thought was good but not his best.

:) true, true. they speak for themselves.
in topics regarding "Best Aphex Release EVER" I always see a lot of Richard D. James Album and i care because you do. I normally side with the ICBYD crowd, but now I'm starting to really love HAB in all its shortness.

It's definitely got a unique feel, and unique production. It's great, and Everyday and Arched Maid are two of his most emotional tracks, I think. All of them are great, except Children Talking. That just gets on my nerves... :-/

I think they should do a rerelease of HAB on cd. That would be nice. HAB 1&2 on one cd...I'm gettin tired of the mp3's, the damn records cost $150+. Damn limited releases...

Yes, definitely! It makes no damn sense to me... I think RDJ doesn't want them re-released, and Warp can't do it without his blessing... Richard, you wanker.

I love those releases. They should re-release them. Mybe they could make some changes for the 2ed, so that the originals still have high value?

$150? I paid under EUR40 a couple of weeks ago. It's great. I'd listened to the mp3's for ages but the real thing just sounds SO much better. I dunno why, feels deeper or something. Pity it's pressed at 33rpm though, because when you play it at 45rpm it's just toooo fast.
Squarepusher's untitled is pressed at 45rpm and listening to it at 33 is really cool cos you can hear all the intricate details of his tracks.

wow! many of you seem to like "Arched Maid Via RDJ" which is my least favourite on this album. conversely, I like "Children Talking" probably the best, with "Custodian Discount" up there as well. I also find "Wabby Legs" to be the most emotional of this release.
I tend to differ in musical opinions with many on this message board, which is a bit odd since we listen to the generally the same artists and releases.

I like it but there's that "rushed" feel that was there in RDJ. yes, I realise that it's drill'n'bass, so it's fast, but it feels like it's running as fast as it can.
I think the best drill'n'b is the stuff that's fast but sorta lilts along too, with a couple layers of pace going on. "freeman, hardy, & willis acid" for example. "custodian discount" too. oh "start as you mean to go on" is a really good example, though it's just fast beatbox programming, not really drill and bass.

yeah, I love start as you mean to go on, and I think that and the d-scape might have been some of the earliest initiators of the drill and bass styles we see more of today

odd, I think the US version is bastardised, because my copy has the original "on", "73yips", "xepha" and the reload mix of "on"
