Crystal for both Mac and Windows
www.greenoak.com/crystal/usermanual.html

highly recommended for all electronic musicmakers, the best
free VSTI I've ever tried....

....and I don't work for them

I think it sounds a bit like Absynth... It's even better in
some areas(including price)

That was pretty good... altho it still sounds like a 'free'
VSTi, it does sound a lot better than most other free
VSTi's.

I think it depends on what sounds you want to make. This one
is ideal for swirly textures/pads/evolving leads. In this
field, I feel it's only topped by FM7, ES2, Absynth and
Virsyn Tera which all cost a lot of money. It definitely
doesn't sound free at all IMHO

I am not saying it sounds bad...

I just browsed the presets.... and it sounds free. Thats the
only way I can describe it. Its kind of like a fuzz in the
background that accompanies all my other free vsti's, even
tho its really not there... but the cracks I have don't do
the same thing... its wierd.

I think light fuzz has more to do with the way certain
patches are created certain sounds need a lower volume
inside the syntharchitecture particulary this one because it
has extensive delay/feedback parameters, it's easy to
overdrive things. Reaktor also suffers from this problem
with more complicated patches at extreme settings. I think
this is the problem.

Yes, just copy the DLL file into your VST plugins directory
of your VSTI compatible program (for instance: c:\program
files\steinberg\vstplugins) and it should show up in your
audioprogram.
