Alright... I just spent 10 minutes trying to load an update
to my current avatar, and it didn't work.

I did everyhting right... and did various things to the
gif/jpg and nothing worked.

Any suggestions from those who change their avatars more
than I?

did you get an error message?

many programs corrupt the image in one way or another (ms
paint for example is notorious).
