I heard on Michael ST Mt, Takign Control and countless other songs by him this little effect... when there's a drumroll in the song, it sounds like one single TomTom, pitched down slowly from it's normal sound to a faint bass rhumble. But it doesn't sound cheap like pitching normally does. Is it filtering? Modulation? I dunno, i doubt anyone else does, I just thought it were rather smart sounding. |

i'm sure it's cripled tho. do they make protools full version for pc's? i'm sure it sucks compared to the mac version but if someone could answer me i'd appreciate it.. i wish they made ab-synth, amp farm, audio mulch, and metasynth for pc's :( |

^yo tits! you can get "proper" protools for the pc! (might just be LE tho ?). demo is for mac and pc its limited to 8 audio tracks (the midi sucks, but then it does on the proper version also). the bonus is tho that it is compatible with tdm plug ins .. though i don't have any .. the timestrech and pitchbend still kick my cubase vst5's ass .. and the protools is free! absynth is out on pc now! |

yo thanks for the heads up on absynth =) as long as protools takes vst and directx plugins i'm set.. still tho i bet the overall pc prog is dif from the mac version. if i were rich i'd buy a mac in a second just to make music w/.. |

soft synth as you might've guessed anyway it's quite a nice one, was available only on macs for a very long time tho the absynth homepage (forget the url at the moment) has mp3's people have made just with the software |

Titsworth .. no probs The thing with protools (the real expensive stuff) is that its a software/hardware interface, thats why its so good (the timing etc). Native instruments are starting to make their stuff tdm (or whatever its called for protools) compatible, so far i think Battery, B4 and Pro-52 are available for the protools crowd. I wouldn't be too down and out bout your pc. A lot of professionals use them in conjunction - mac and pc [ i think rich has a vaio (as well as his macs), and richie hawtin uses a pc/mac combo also, just to name those that pop in me head]. Apart from maybe mastering, as far as I can see they are more or less the same, just a matter of personal preference. I myself have a mac, and am very happy with it, but i don't think it makes my music any better because of it tho?! Re: protools, I still think Cubase/Logic is much much more versatile (as you hint with the VST thing) than cubase. There's heaps of progs for the pc .. i mean just look at all the people using fruityloops on this board - making some pretty damn good music. Having the equipment might help, but it still [imho] essentially comes down to the creative process which no matter how expensive it is can't substitute. ? :) What progs you got at the moment ??? |

than cubase = than protools !! duh you know .. the fm7 only just recently came out for the mac! its all give and take .. new reaktor versions come out pc version first .. :) |

i got a shitload of programs, the only ones i'm lacking are the ones i mentioned above that are or were only for mac, plus some i haven't been able to find: spectralizer, tassman, and pro-52. musicians, producers, and engineers just make macs seem so much easier to use, maybe it's just a bias i've developed in my head cos of that. fruityloops is good for adjusting samples (tweaking them) but it drives me nuts using the program to make actual songs, way too formulaic.. i know there are ways of modifying that, but it's too complicated for me to figure out. i'm just used to a looser sound cos i play "real" instruments.. that's why i like other programs better, especially cos they integrate live inputs. sorry i'm incoherent, it's very late here and i am going to bed.. goodnight |

sweet :) yeah .. i'm not sure about live input on fruityloops, but flea (imho) is a prime example of how unformulaeic and seemingly random and stream of conscious you can make fruityloops sound .. if you've got so many programs - the only thing i'd be worried about is mastering, which as a general rule of thumb is better done in a studio anyway - as they know what exactly to look out for, have better equipment (ie protools etc.). mac's easier to use? that's quite a strange concept considering the actual 'program interfaces' on the platforms are the same ?? :) u got any toonz one could d/l and have a listen to (i've tuned in to sum o' them radio sessions :) |

the only recordings i have aren't music, they're just extreme noise things lacking a real melody. i've some music that i haven't recorded yet, but that's analogue stuff. i just need time in the summer to master the programs as you said and make some tracks. basically i'll be making everything from idm to pure hip-hop to jazz to experimental noise stuff, and lots of combinations of the above.. besides various software i rock a mic(rophone), trumpet, guitars, electric bass, synthesizers (especially my late 80s model yamaha), percussion, etc. etc. nothing too fancy (and nothing expensive) but they're enough to do what i want at the moment.. thanks for listening to my show :) anyway goodnight for real (closing the browser, haha) |

not plug ins as such (ie. instruments) but its got: compressor, delay (short, medium, long, slap), timestretch, pitchbend, reverse etc. all pretty standard .. good fun tho .. checkin yo songs now :) |

Thankyou very much, I've had alot worse in my times, lol. It was very bouncy wasn't it? Seems to be doing pretty well so far... had 15,000 downlaods of Beef Jerkin' and that awful hiphop song (*Everybody Wanna Know Why) with those bad rappers... those both got to number one, although I can't imagine why on earth the latter did... the Beef Jerkin' for that matter, since I recorded it over a year ago! |
